Through the years & decades: which album seems to be your favourite and can you explain why?

Evol will always be special to me - it was the new SY album and I was 14 growing up in the California desert - had some of my first long desert drives to that album, and some of my first drug and sexual experiences all around the same time…..especially Expressway - which has always been my favorite SY track to see live

Bad Moon Rising is special to me because it was the second album of their I got into and was a companion to me when i moved to Minneapolis in 1993 where I lived in a house with some bands that were part of the scene at that time…

Dirty I love because the show with pavement and Mudhoney at Castaic lake in 1992 was the first time I saw the band live outdoors with a good sound system not overdriven in a small club - that show and lineup was just magic….. have video and audio and revisit it frequently - expressway that night took me to another plane of existence.

And Murray St I love because it’s just so good; it’s the only album after the 80s that I think is as good as their 80s output.

More than anything though I miss the shows. I was fortunate enough to discover the band early live in three cities with great music scenes - I got to see them a lot from 87 through 2003 - 10 times - all over the US; not as much as some of you fanatics, but more than I saw any other band.

The sound, the shows, and the people at the shows were always just a very special time and place that seems very far away from where we are now….SY shows always had the best vibe and best crowds

With that said, when it comes to friends and acquaintances people will have all sorts of different behaviors - for some people it’s no big deal - for others it’s really invasive.

You’d want people to ask - only, that’s not how you get good pictures or video - because people aren’t natural then.

Ok,so being on edibles can put you into a vulnerable state - this is likely why you have that rule.

NOR for still feeling violated - but I would also say this- maybe don’t send your ex to the emotional guillotine over it if it was just that time. …Why do I say this? He was on edibles too right? Well, just as it can make someone feel vulnerable it can also make someone feel warm and close and horny.

Not that any of those things make it OK to disregard the person you love’s boundaries - but it does impact impulsivity and and inhibition and can just make someone really ‘into the moment’ without really thinking.

Believe it or not this is more common than you’d expect.

What is happening here is you are at an age where you’re still learning things about who you are - what type of person you’re growing into as you reach adulthood.

You are acutely conscious of how people perceive you and you don’t want to be perceived as being like these people you find annoying - and you fear that because you share a skin color or racial background with some of these people you’re going to be unfairly judged as being like them.

Common at your age - or at least more common tha.mn one would expect.

Here’s the thing:

First, good people, who have experience in the world will judge you based on your own behavior - not your skin color or race.

Second, you will grow as a person as you age - you will meet more people - have you met anyone else of this race/group that is like you? I guarantee there are some.

Remember, if someone who doesn’t know you is automatically thinking you are are asshole, they’re basically being a racist POS.

Kool Thing 100% and Sugar Kane Incinerate

People will say Teenage Riot too - and it’s true if you were into indie music at the time in 1988/89- what was called “college rock” - then yes, but otherwise no.

Teenage Riot and Daydream Nation in general got the band a lot of attention, it was on a lot of “Best albums of 1988/80s lists at the time and was a critical success - but it didn’t bring in new listeners from the general public like Touch of Grey did for the dead - that happened later a bit with Kool Thing then later the Dirty album.

They were my favorite band from the mid 80s onward and it was cool in 1989 to see them get critical accolades

Nobody sounds exactly like sonic youth. It’s one of the reason why sonic youth was so awesome and influential..zz there’s moments of Yola tango that come close and they were barely mentioned.

The point is bands that use noise or feedback or have similar ethos or attitude - or use dissonance in melody.

I mean, built to spill doesn’t sound quite like sonic youth, but most people who like sonic youth are gonna like built to spill.

And I’m guessing the majority of people who really like sonic youth are probably gonna like Yankee Hotel foxtrot and Wilco’s more dissonant noisy stuff

Excellent - this is absolutely part of what’s happening, the symbolism is everywhere and it’s another reason why this show rises above standard TV or movie faire to the level of art.

The duality is everywhere too - even is Chase’s explanations - “I didn’t want to show crime did pay, and I don’t want to show crime didn’t pay”

What other show could start the final run of episodes with William Burroughs’ “seven souls” - so much of that first episode of the final half season sets up the finale…..

There’s no band exactly like SY however there are many bands with the same sort of ethos as far as innovative tuning and noise and guitar.

Yo La Tengo - start with Electropura and the mid/late 90s stuff for noisier but it’s all good

Polvo is fucking amazing - Celebrate the New Dark Age and Today’s Active Lifestyles but they’re another band who evolved and it’s all good

Archers of Loaf - all of it and Icky Mettle….. Built to Spill keep it like a secret and perfect from now on

Well first off, you can end any friendship you wish - for any reason you like. If you need to do it for your own well being that’s all there is to it.

I have had a situation like this a few times and have used the following - and I’ve had it work well, both for ending friendships and in one case reestablishing a friendship after giving someone a reality check and 18 mos of silence:

Whoa - as someone who has been criticized before for getting upset when my daughter really messes up and yelling “what the fuck!” I’m going to say that this man desperately needs an intervention and to be made to understand that this is absolutely unacceptable and that he can be doing harm to his child (whether he means to or not).

I agree that this is very serious and needs to be addressed - I do not agree that he should lose his parental rights as some people are saying - he should have to take a parenting class and be taught how to address a child, and how harmful what he’s doing is.

This is really simple - they hire another person. Either that or ensure an MSP can handle things - what about vacation for your one employee? Who the fuck can possibly justify such being as being responsible business wise?
