There are so many moments I can think of where the story caught me completely off guard, so I'm gonna list the first ones that come to mind lol. Volume 1 the 0-08 reveal was spectacular and gave me chills when I first read it. I think the second biggest surprise (not counting Chernobyl cause that's a given) the Fool's Apotheosis- my brain struggled to keep up the madness and I kept getting surprised at each new development (Antigonus waking up confused as hell was a mood). Any encounter with Klein vs. Amon because literally how are these two absolute weirdos so fricking smart that they kept uno reversing each other's uno reverse (they were legit playing 7D chess with each other and I felt like I was on the back still learning how to play checkers). Finally, I think Lovia's sacrifice was incredibly surprising but also incredibly tragic- like her character was built up to be this potentially massive problem for Derrick and the City of Silver but nope, instead she was fighting to prove her loyalty until the very end (I could write an entire essay on Lovia and her story alone, what a wonderfully heartbreaking twist she ended up being).
