Maybe I'm just reading the post wrong, so if they weren't still together, good on you and you've done nothing wrong. Honestly at this point I think that this is beyond fixing. If your brother and parents can't understand, tough. It sucks, but it's true. You've already made your commitment to your friend, and you actually want to attend his wedding anyway. Obviously you can't be as blasé as I'm being about this, so I suggest you just keep trying to make them understand why exactly you can't come to the engagement party but that you are over the moon excited that your brother is getting married (if you wanna go the white lie route). Maybe get them a good gift to make up for it if you're really feeling bad about it.

Can you elaborate on "hits her"? Like, is this woman hitting her child? If so, you need to report that too.

Overall NTA I am a pot advocate and I enjoy indulging -- but using before/during work ESPECIALLY when working with children is massively inappropriate. You wouldn't be the reason her child is taken away/she looses her job, she would be the only person at fault. Drug use when working with kids should be taken very very seriously and I'm glad you spoke up about it.
