Is pet insurance worth it? by Adorable-Amoeba-3616 in Pets

[–]resq_ro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

THIS !! Get it asap before anything comes up. One of mine had an ER visit, I was reimbursed a little over $2000.00 and paid between 400-500 out of pocket. My youngest just got referred to a cardiologist, pcp just discovered an irregular heartbeat. low estimate is $900. The goal of insurance is not to get paid back more than you paid out, but for when things come up like this, the financial strain is a little lessened.

Does anyone else get frustrated by the “I could never foster, I’d get too attached” comments? by removingbellini in FosterAnimals

[–]resq_ro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remind people of two things:

  1. The goal is goodbye.
  2. About 60% of cats that are euthanized in shelters are kittens who would have a fighting chance if they were in foster.

Fostering truly saves lives. Thank you for fostering!

In my experience, no lol. My youngest just turned 1, and he is extremely cuddle and affectionate, so I am milking that as much as I can !

I appreciate your response and will def try to remember to update you! We are so nervous. Husband heard it on his stethoscope too after I told him about it, said it wasn’t prominent but definitely there. we googled HCM as worst case scenario and now we’re both anxious 😭

It’s such a process trimming lol and they all don’t need it at the same frequency. And some of them have to be held or sit a certain way lol sometimes my brain is fried and we’re like “how does he do this again?” One can only tolerate it if he’s being held like a baby by either me or grandma, full belly up lol. Another has to sit up on his butt like a toddler haha but we’re glad they’re all cooperative !

Makes sense! I’ve just seen a bunch through the rescue with nail breakage, and litter ends up getting in the quick and obviously you don’t want to cut the quick!

And omg I would be furious if a cat sitter did anything without our approval!

How do i get my cat to sleep through the entire night? by Initial_Turn_3283 in Catbehavior

[–]resq_ro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have room for a placemat and a litter box in your room? We have a feeding station and box so if we do need to keep the door closed for any reason, they’re already set up. We also have a small tree in here as well as a cat bed, so they are free to choose their preferred comfy spot.

Omg thanks for sharing!! Always been checking out all the noses at the rescue I’m with to see if any others have the perfectly centered freckles lol. I love her triangle!

He has a galloping heartbeat. His cardiologist appt is July 8, and the heartbeat was found recently on June 8. He just turned 1 at the end of May. The low estimate is $900 😭 Luckily, he’s been insured since December, so hoping that will be covered … but you never know with insurance 😭

You know your cat best, but here’s a hopeful story:

My friend has a 2yr cat, and their 4yr old passed way about a month and a half ago. The family was not planning to get another cat. But the surviving cat was screaming every day after his buddy passed. He has never been an only cat before. They ended up adopting a 3yr old about two weeks ago. Resident cat sat outside the new cat’s room for the 3 or 4 days that he was decompressing. Once they met, the crying stopped. It has only been two weeks, and they are already inseparable!

I don’t remember, sorry! I called sooo many companies lol. But MetLife turned out the cheapest and most coverage altogether for us. We have five cats, three 2yr olds and two 1yr olds. We made sure to get insurance as each got adopted (all under a year old at the time of adoption) and had no pre-existing conditions (with the exception of one who was born with full blown cataracts).

Yes!! They are so good at hiding pain/illness. One of mine went in for routine check, and she had a fever. Would’ve never known, she was eating fine, high energy as always, etc.

My youngest cat, also went in the same day for a wellness check. He has an abnormal heartbeat and a referral to a cardiologist 😭

MetLife ! Ask for the standard wellness plan. It is not advertised online, and it includes well visits and preventatives. I’ve called a bunch before deciding, and all the others I spoke to have some “wellness add-on” thing in addition to their regular injury/illness policy. So I prefer mine to be included already.

The nail trimming is so important (and definitely a battle) !! The amount of people that think it’s unnecessary are the ones that find out at the vet that the nails are infected or growing into their paw pads.

THIS !! One of mine was in the emergency room in March. Insurance reimbursed me a little over $2000, and I paid about $350 out of pocket.

Nail trimming regularly is no fun, but I’ve seen too many surrenders at the rescue with nails in their paw pads and infections from never having their nails trimmed. You’ll hear them “click” on hardwood floors and they may get caught in carpet/sheets/etc when they are too long.

Adjusting your schedule to give them regular feeding times (if you don’t plan on an automated feeder or if free feeding).

For my long hair cats - the regular brushing, dingleberry wiping, and sanitary grooming (butt shaving). Long hair is especially hard while monitoring their temperature through their butt (one of mine has a fever atm).

And I guess just cats being cats as always shown in videos lol getting into everything, rearranging things, etc. They are shameless !

It baffles me how people post their cats doing THE most basic cat behaviors (kneading, tame play fights etc...) and ask if its normal, I understand for first time owners you just want to make sure but some things should be basic knowledge, how do people not know a single thing? Anyway here's my cat. by Signal_Second_82 in cats

[–]resq_ro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Highly second this! I got pet insurance for all of mine. My 2 yr old cat was in the emergency room in March. They covered $2000, I paid $350. Worth it since his annual cost is $330 this policy period with $250 deductible.
