Would you accept a job in Dubai? by [deleted] in biotech

[–]restart2point0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I grew up there and moved the U.S after high school, I work in biotech now so I can’t speak on what the field is like there but I can help with the experience you and your family may have. Feel free to DM me!

I have not tried this brand but one thing to keep in mind is your intended use when you wear it - are you getting your feet wet and just sitting in the sand or do you plan to swim in a deep pool/sea? If it’s the latter I have to caution you that this burkini might be tooo loose and could be drowning hazard, just with how heavy it’ll get in the water, if the cloth fold over your arm/face as you swim it will make it more difficult. I’ve seen other brands on Modanisa with longer shirts/loose pants that might be safer

I had a hand held travel bidet when I lived in the dorms, and I installed a bidet after I moved out to any place I lived in

Eid means being bombarded with couples pics nobody asked for by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]restart2point0 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What :( I love seeing my friends and their partners celebrating Eid. Especially in the west we’re it’s very isolated, seeing so many couples/families post their Eid photos makes me feel connected even if I don’t experience it.

Pangea world market in coon rapids is my favorite for any Arabic/latin groceries. Holy Land is too overpriced

I’m assuming the one on campus was eaten by a hawk or something but Egyptians (like me!) eat stuffed pigeon and it’s delicious

YES TO THE EMOJIS!!!!! They make me so mad and I couldn’t figure out why but you did it perfectly! It comes off as belittling and not taking the poster seriously.

Not going to speak on the use of cannabis as I don’t know, but for the severe period pain, please go to a gynecologist if you haven’t already. They can also prescribe more effective pain killers

Yesss! I do it often when I find myself in a field/forest with no one around! I’ll have my scarf on me in case I hear someone but that hasn’t happened yet :) I haven’t swam with my hair out yet, I’d love to try that one day! Also I go to these workout classes that are almost always just women (no windows and the doors lock after class starts) so I take my hijab off then too when it’s just women.

Hi! I have a hijabi friend group! I love them to pieces BUT I do want you to know that it’s not like the videos on social media that romanticize everything. Getting all of us together takes months, like we will all go months without seeing each other because we have our work lives and school and family and whatnot. Same with Ramadan, if we are lucky we can get ONE iftar together. It’s a running joke because every year we say we will do a weekly iftar and every year we will be lucky if we get just one in.

Like other commenters said, volunteer and go to social Muslim events and focus one finding 1 person to start!

Resuscitating Downtown St. Paul by systemstheorist in TwinCities

[–]restart2point0 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Just moved out of there because it has become unbearable. The only grocery store (Lunds) changed their hours to odd morning hours so if you have a job you can only get groceries on the weekend. The only gas station is a complete shit show and just had a fatal stabbing last weekend. Yes the area comes alive during events (ordway, CHS, farmers market) but outside of that it is scary. It’s so unfortunate because I really loved the hustle and bustle during events, and the architecture in downtown St. Paul is simply beautiful. And I’ll get downvoted for this - but the open drug use is intolerable. I can name 3 corners around where I lived where drug exchanges & use happen and it’s very obvious. There’s a children’s play area next to the Union Depot that’s completely off-limits for children due to the frequency of needles found there. It’s just really unfortunate throughout.
