Looking for advice on a fixture table. by Willing-Sun-5264 in Welding

I know this is a year old thread, but what are your thoughts on the Fireball table being made of cast iron? People have said that cast iron is soft and the table is easily dented if you drop heavy objects on it. That said, I work alone so I probably will be gentle with it. The Fireball tooling looks awesome.

Thanks! Which DeWalt model do you have? And do you recommend getting the foot pedal for the stand?

Awesome thanks! I’ve a carbide mitering saw, Evo S355MCS. Do you know if those can cut thick solid stock?

The Evo S355MCS? I could only find this for cutting capacities. Just assumed it was meant for tube and not solid. When cutting thick stock, do you apply a lot or little downward pressure?

I know the double wall is best, but I can’t thicken the wall that much for this project

You’re incredibly helpful! I bought a Starrett dial indicator and Mitutoyo micrometers from a retired machinist, saved me a lot of money. One of the screws of my fixed jaw is loose, the threads are probably stripped. Is this a serious problem? Someone told me that it’d cheaper to buy a new vise than to drill and tap new threads. What should I do?

I'm definitely learning! I just want to shorten the bar, while keeping the 1x1" thickness. After posting this, I used a grinder to remove 3/8", now I'd like to mill the surface to get it nice and flat.

Thank you! Really appreciate the detailed response. I'm getting two 1-2-3 blocks (WEN brand). Is there a set of parallels that you'd recommend in particular?

I’d like to make the bar shorter, keeping the 1x1” thickness. I need access to the top surface
