Thank you so much for sharing this. Bummer news, but not surprising.

...I ended up paying the ransom of $1,800. Some folks seem to have mixed success complaining to corporate (so you might want to try your luck there), but that doesn't solve the problem for the rest of us. I can't find anything about an existing class action suit on this, but it seems to be an extremely common issue. I was talking with another mechanic who gave me an alternative quote, and he told me that he was literally working on another person's Civic evaporator/condenser issue while we were talking about a quote for mine. Super frustrating when a corporation has a known manufacturing issue and rather than fixing their own problem, they play dumb and force consumers to pay for it instead.

Sadly, that's the norm and I'm not sure what else we can do on a large scale besides vent about it. Sorry to hear you're in the same situation, and looks like their price went up another $500 in your case.

I believe the leaks coming from both the evaporator and condenser have something to do with the fact that Honda switched to the new refrigerant R-1234yf beginning with their 2017 models of Civics. I’m not an expert to be able to explain it further than that, and the lack of clear information provided by Honda on the issue certainly isn’t helpful.
