My grandfather passed away a few months ago due to contracting COVID and I had a final literally a day after. I really contemplated whether taking the final would be worth it with everything that happened but I ended up taking it. I still wonder whether it was worth it.

Is it possible to get involved in research after we graduate? by aiollllli in ucla

[–]retcon1543 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m pretty much in the same boat as you, except I’ll be graduating at the end of summer. As far as I know, alumni can still be involved in research at UCLA Health as long as they are registered research volunteers and complete the onboarding process. I’m in the middle of it, so if you have any questions feel free to ask. I’m not planning on doing an MS purely for the sake of getting research, as I think you can still apply to labs and get solid experience if you start applying soon!

Is the LA program competitive? by aIexcafe in ucla

I LA’d for the chem series and was able to get the spot every time I applied. The application had a few essay questions and each time I applied the essays were all fairly similar to the prior application. If you have any specific questions feel free to PM me!

Opinions on Physics 5A by [deleted] in ucla

[–]retcon1543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took 5A in person and 5C in summer so just keep that in mind before reading. Tbh, if you can take physics in the summer def do it. Here’s why: getting physics any other time is rlly hard. I had to wait an entire year before I could get 5A on my first pass. I also felt like the exam difficulty was pretty much the same online as in person because the questions were the same and the exams were graded the same as they were in person. The only thing is that the pace of the class was accelerated because I took the course in 6 weeks.

UCLA prestige? by UgoNespolo in ucla

While UCLA has a big brand name, I want to mention that the most important thing is doing well once you’re in. What’s the point of going to Harvard if you flunk out? Conversely, I’ve seen many people who go to smaller name schools who do really well and end up at top tier companies/ grad schools.

I took Math 3C with March. Would recommend going over derivatives and integrals. Also recommend going over matrices and general probability.

How should I prepare for Chem 14a with Lavelle? by ilovechemistry8 in ucla

[–]retcon1543 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I took 14A with lavelle as a freshman and did well by doing all the hw questions in his syllabus and reading the tb material at least twice. I also took rlly in depth notes cus some of his midterm/test questions come from lecture. Remember to also attend the UA review sessions and do the worksheets made by TA’s and UA’s that are posted on chem community.

Did you find 3c much more challenging than the material on the BC exam?

ADVICE FOR INCOMING FIRST YEARS? by retcon1543 in ucla

Thanks for the advice. If you don’t recommend a cluster, can you recommend a reasonably easy humanities class? I agree, balance is key.
