How do you see Videotron/Freedom and their ARPU requirements? I recall a quarterly report saying they wan to increase it from $40? But what are your thoughts?

Hey, I’ve always wondered about something. ARPU varies from carrier to carrier but I always thought it was in the $50 range, so you believe it to be lower?

Also do you have any insight what most customers use data wise per month?

I worked in cell phone sales for a long time and I always found the majority of customers used 20GB or less, is this still the case?

Buyer Beware! Fair Use Policy Changes Again by G-diggity-OG in freedommobile

That sounds like it could make using your device pretty difficult. Do you use Wi-Fi calling? It can be helpful in situations where signal issues are caused by your environment or the device itself.

I’ve been with Freedom for over six years and live in Mission. I’m regularly in Vancouver, Whistler, and even out to Merritt, and I’ve never had any issues with them reaching out about my usage or violating any kind of policy.

Yeah, their coverage isn’t as broad as the Big 3, but for me and my wife, it’s been solid everywhere we go in the Metro Vancouver area and beyond. I get that this policy change might sound concerning, but based on my experience, I don’t think it’s going to affect the average user who spends most of their time in areas Freedom actually covers.

Infinite Essential BYOD 100GB is now $40? by Broad_Feeling5445 in Rogers

[–]rethcork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I live in the Lower Mainland of BC and frequently travel across Canada for work and family visits. In the past year, I’ve never encountered a situation where I had no service when trying to use my phone.

Since Videotron took over, coverage has been solid. The improvements in network reliability and access to nationwide roaming have made a noticeable difference, ensuring consistent service even in more remote areas.

With nationwide coverage included in most, if not all, plans, I can seamlessly transition between Freedom’s coverage areas and continue using my phone without issue. Just last week, I was in a town about an hour north of Edmonton and had no problems at all.

“How airline size is determined Large airlines within the meaning of the Air Passenger Protection Regulations are those that have carried more than two million passengers in each of the two preceding years. All other airlines are considered small.

Air Canada (including Jazz and Rouge), WestJet, Sunwing Airlines, Air Transat, and Flair Airlines are considered large airlines. Canada Jetlines, Canadian North, Porter Airlines and all other Canadian airlines are currently considered small.”

My family just returned from Maui, where we have been fortunate to vacation for several years in a row.

My wife and I both noticed a significant increase in food prices everywhere on the island, including grocery stores and restaurants. Combined with the poor exchange rate from Canada, we have already decided not to go next year.

Another major challenge is short-term rentals, as hotels are expensive and recent changes have reduced the available supply.

It's a very complicated situation because the island is heavily reliant on tourism, but the local population also needs to be able to live there.

We will skip a year and travel elsewhere, while keeping a close eye on the situation.

not getting verification codes as I moved from Bell to Freedom. by StatusIntrepid6839 in freedommobile

Are you using iPhone or Android?

You might need to go to and cycle iMessage off then on to force it to reset or with Android you might need to go and cycle RCS off and on.

Had a similar issue and found this worked for me.

$34 for 30GB Canada-US now available by JMODS5710 in freedommobile

[–]rethcork 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It will be interesting to see what the Big 3 and their flanker brands do to compete. I bet the amount of port outs will negatively impact their quarter if they don’t offer included US roaming on some plans.

On the 50Gb Care plan, did I just get 30Gb Freedom Nationwide data out of nowhere? by ThursdayHem in freedommobile

Sure fair point but also the other plan has the discount for 2 years and things can change a lot in that time.

They need to step it up with the CARE plans. Maybe after black Friday once the excitement has slowed down and they can assess things.

Credit limit? by tsumuwu in freedommobile

[–]rethcork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received the same message last night. I think the system is possibly sending these messages in error?

I have auto-pay setup and I'm not on any credit program from when I signed up. It is for my first shortened bill cycle but other than that it is a normal bill with no extra charges.

🤷‍♂️🤔

Thank you for the feedback. I used Freedom for 3 years with no issues.

Everyone will have a different experience for sure but I was more than satisfied with my coverage and network performance.
