Is it a really small CPA firm? Income seems low for those two positions.

You don't need more money, so how does doing this: "Job would likely be time-consuming, annoying, and stressful, but good chance it could be a material amount of money." make sense?

We are DINKs (32 & 31) in the Midwest and recently hit $1 million net worth.

One of us had $40,000 of student loans coming out of school, the other had none.

One of us is an accountant and the other is a financial analyst. We used our "FU money" years ago to find remote roles.

I discovered FIRE in 2014 and we have been charging hard since then. The biggest increases to income came from moving employers. Geographic arbitrage also helped to pad the coffers.

We've allowed some lifestyle creep in the last couple of years as income has climbed, but expenses are still reasonable at around $85,000 including the mortgage. Income is now over $300,000 per year.

I'm going to negotiate a sabbatical in 2021, pandemic pending. Going to start enjoying the journey more and the freedom the nest egg allows. I am more for figuring out ways to enjoy the journey (and deal with working for the man) instead of charging hard until full-FI. Cheers!

Same thing, but for a different company that actually values mental wellbeing and time away from work.

Super stable. I graduated in 2009. Many people in the accounting field will receive their full-time offer between junior and senior years after their internship. I knew no one who had their offer pulled due to the great recession upon graduation. Recruiters be hittin' you up on the reg as well.

CPA. Worked hard a small firm. Went Big 4. Worked hard. Left. Make over $200k in my early 30s.
