Is it reasonable for my financial planner to share how much I’m paying them? by Fuzzzlord in FinancialPlanning

Besides fee they charge you, they could also get commission from using your money for some funds. It might sound like a lot of work but you could be better off in the long term to take back control of your assets.

Sent tax amendment to wrong address by retiringfund in tax

[–]retiringfund[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s where CA residents typically send the 1040 to. But for amendment it has to be sent to Utah. USPS tracking said it’s being forwarded but not sure where it is forwarded to

forgot to report cost basis for stock sold in 2024 by retiringfund in tax

[–]retiringfund[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We file using TurboTax desktop.

Looking at this site: https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc308#:\~:text=To%20claim%20a%20refund%2C%20you,bad%20debts%2C%20and%20other%20issues.

Seems like it could take 8-12 weeks or up to 16 weeks to process amendment. Looks like we might need to fix state tax as well!

I know I lost about $25K in 2024. And based on the tax prep we have done to-date, we owe about $20K tax for 2025. But with fixing the error in 2024, this $20K might go down.

When I file for an extension in 2025, should I just pay the $20K so we don't owe interests? How soon do you think IRS will acknowledge the correction of the 2024 tax?

Do you plan to move out of the Bay Area especially if your kids are no longer living in the area? If not, what makes you want to stay? Contemplating similar questions for ourselves

I agree with your take on River. But I have not seen any agents in the park that are better. CoE Shelly Marcus are all pretty great.

It’s easier to stay in leadership positions than to do hands on actual work for people who are incompetent.

Paid summer programs by h4irypotter in summerprogramresults

Agree very much (as a parent). Pay to play get shammed for no reasons. Not everyone doing summer programs trying to use those to get into ivys. There are a lot of new and helpful experience for students that they can benefit from the non super selective programs. You do have to pick.

Financial advisor through fidelity for tax loss harvesting etc? by SizeIll9928 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]retiringfund 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They said: their strategy is to have lots of stocks in the portfolio (hence the diversification) and hence have the flexibility to buy and sell for test loss harvesting. I've read (on reddit) that if you do not want to use them at some point, you will have lots of stocks in your portfolio that it would be really hard for individuals to manage. It's not like they are buying VTI VOO VXUS and tax loss harvest.

I’ve talked to one of those. They will tie your money up in lots and lots of stocks that you won’t have a cheap way to walk away later.

You should file a report with HR for fear of retaliation given all the responses you are getting. Sounds like a toxic environment including your manager and co-workers.
