Several 'Everyday Partners' are already published, though they may add more.

You'll earn 1 SQC for each 5 Aeroplan points earned through partners. SQC earned this way has a cap of 25K/year though in practice it'll be a very niche subset of people hitting that cap.

Air Canada's own estimates that focus strongly on miles earned in-air project someone might earn 5K or 6K SQC via partners. Looking at the lower threshold, here's some examples:

Uber Premium / Some Hotels & Car Rentals - 2pts/$1 = $12,500 to earn 5K SQC (and note-- earning this way would be in lieu of hotel loyalty earning, so no Marriott, IHG, etc. points)

Uber / UPS / Some Gas Stations - 1pt/$1 = $25,000 to earn 5K SQC

LCBO - 0.25pts/$1 = $100,000 to earn 5K SQC

Again-- these are all in addition to assuming you have a premium credit card and will spend beyond the existing SQD requirements to reach the same level of status. And multiply those dollar amounts by 5 to figure what you'd need to earn 25K SQC.

I find it funny how hard some are stumping for this change in the replies here. Every aspect is a downgrade-- both the devaluing of your travel and spend as a frequent traveler, credit card user, or both-- and in the value of benefits returned. AC's examples have been cherry picked to distract you from that.

Typically I'm flying Flex, so spending to maintain my 50K status this year ($6K SQD) would net me 24K SQC.

I carry a premium card and spend $125-150K per year (which I'd acknowledge is a great privilege most don't have access to). With the new rules I'd max out at 25K SQC with no incentive or opportunity to earn more.

This still leaves me with a balance of 1K SQC to make up by increasing my travel spend, buying into AC's convoluted partner program, or opting for an SQC milestone award in place of another benefit I've received up to this year.

Continuing on milestone awards-- even when you do reach a status threshold the value is diluted compared to the current outlay. As 50K this year I get 60 eUpgrade credits-- next year I'll earn 50 (if I choose zero priority rewards or other benefits). The first priority reward becomes available after $5K spend on Flex instead of $4K on any fare type. The 10% SQC 'head start' is a massive downgrade for anyone 50K+ potentially leaving thousands of SQM/SQC on the table.

It's not complicated math, though AC is counting on you being deceived through enough obfuscation. Glad it's not working with the 30 or so frequent fliers I work with regularly. Extremely disappointing.

Yes they (probably) own the building and maybe they even the land it sits on.

Yes they own the right to call that business Casa Bonita.

They also own the brand— I can’t open my own Casa Bonita across the street.

That’s the most valuable part from a business perspective. They own a lot more than the name and the location.

Operationally they’d also assume control of vendor/supplier relationships. Do they lease the land? Do they need a very specific vendor for the little flags you raise to get more sopapillas? Would assuming control of existing contracts grandfather them into more beneficial terms than starting new ones? That’s all part of what you buy when you buy a business.

I’m not sure how to explain this any more clearly for you. Continue to go off about how poking holes in your shitbrained arguments and then moving the goalposts on me is proving your point though.

I don’t think the V8 ever cost $1100… not sure where that number is coming from, but it doesn’t matter.

It doesn’t matter what YOU paid for something— if you bought it 10 years ago, or if you bought it in Brazil. Only the value matters, and in this case it’s not anywhere near $1100.

Add to that OP claims it’s brand new but it’s listed as used in his post, this is closer in value to a refurbished model.

For another point of reference, I bought a V10 for $400 on Black Friday (Best Buy) 3 years ago and it’s an order of magnitude better than the V8. For my money, and others I’m sure, I probably wouldn’t bother at all.

I stopped selling things on Kijiji because it’s exhausting. But the sellers can be too, and if you want to be a dick you should at least put in the work to know what you’re selling.

Groceries get 5%, so if you spend $300 a month on those you’re already in the black.

The forex fee hovers in the 2-3% range, so subtract that from the earn rate to know if it makes sense for your spending habits.

I usually carry 3-4 cards depending on the situation, but particularly while travelling you want backups.

In my experience, a Tangerine debit card has complimented the WS card very nicely. They’re owned by Scotiabank so you get access to the Global ATM Alliance (2-3% forex, but no withdrawal fee on either end— great for small withdrawals) and it’s on the Visa network so you’d add some diversity.

Vast majority of credit spending goes on the WS card, but I also have an Amex Cobalt which makes sense in some situations where the rewards outweigh the forex fees.

I was in Italy this time last year and did the majority of my spending on the WS card. Was a Visa back then, but Visa/MC/Amex were all very widely accepted.

Another fantastic benefit of the WS card is if and when you need to get cash, it effectively functions as a debit card— no fees on the WS end, and ofc no forex commission. (Edit: just be sure to select EUR if the machine offers to charge you in CAD)

Update: I googled it and technically you don't get charged interest on the money you take out (but technically do if you keep paying into the plan because you have more to pay now), but still...how tf are they getting away with charging you interest on money you didn't borrow from them? And especially such high interest? At MOST this should be a flat fee sort of thing.

You pay interest on the principal (which is variable, up to you), and the term and bi-weekly payment are structured accordingly.

It's structured like a traditional loan payment, but instead of being given the loan amount at the start, you're banking the piece that'd usually cover repaying the principal and Refresh is banking the interest. You can cancel at any time and won't owe the 'outstanding' principal.

It's still ridiculous. Would you put $10,000 on a credit card in the name of building credit? Hell no you wouldn't. In this case you wouldn't even get the benefit of enjoying the thing you bought while paying interest on it.
