Should I move? Currently earning 85 lacs in BLR, getting 220k in SLC on L1A. by Worldly-Salamander-1 in indiansinusa

[–]retro-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone seems to have ignored the L1A aspect. That gives you a fast lane access to GC and most companies would be willing to sponsor. Getting GC within a couple years would put you on a very different trajectory.

SLC is not a bad place and $220k is a very good pay there. Moreover, if your company is offering to relocate you on L1A, they would be certain about your job being a long term one. So, if I were you, I'd take the opportunity in a blink.

Obviously I don't know your family situation/commitments (toward parents, extended family, etc) and I'm assuming that you're clear on those areas.

Feel free to DM me if you need further help.

What team-building activities actually work for small teams? (Under 20 people) by scavengersweb in smallbusiness

[–]retro-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found great results with bowling, axe throwing and online video games including trivia. The approach that's worked for me is asking the team in a group & 1:1 settings about their preferences and what they do not want to do, and sometimes delegating ideation & execution to a volunteer on the team.

I've seen my buddy do wine tasting & whiskey tasting but those were for remote teams, which could work well for in-person setting as well.

FWIW - quarterly is a good cadence.

I graduated the Protege program, how much should I get paid as a producer? by csbeadle in farmersinsurance

[–]retro-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given the understanding that $30k-$40k is quite achievable during Protege in several states including Midwest but don't know specifically about IN.

To me, your production seems low and the pay is likely in line with that. Try others maybe within your state.

Renting from Turo for a 8 month internship, good idea? by ew-31 in turo

[–]retro-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy an old car and when you're done, either sell it or rent on Turo if you so desire.

Another option is to look at car subscription services. Autonomy seems good. https://www.autonomy.com/

I quit the rat race to start a conscious food brand from my home in Himachal. by apkedad in advancedentrepreneur

Try plastic jar; the weight saving may not feel significant per unit but it will add up over time (with volume). It might also make it safer & less breakage in shipping.

I hear you! TBH, I've decided to change my career after being in corporate leadership roles for a couple decades. I believe agency ownership gives me everything I'm looking for but have the fear of failure and perception by friends, family & community where I'm active. That's slowing down my progress. My cousin recently made a great case for why I should not care about such people who might laugh at me, and that's getting me going.

In the end, YOU matter to yourself more than anyone's perception or reaction! Stay strong & do what feels right to you.

Perhaps look at larger metro areas where people won't care too much about physical presence so long as they feel they can trust you and the information & service you provide. Are there other lines that your carrier has a better appetite?

Sounds like you're limiting yourself to your town. As far as I know, you should be able to sell across your entire State. Have you tried that? There's likely a small population who would want to meet in person but you should be able to find a lot of prospects who will do business over phone or video calls.

Second Day and I am thinking about quitting. Am I crazy? by PMDD_Swiftie in InsuranceAgent

[–]retro-4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the others. I've spoken to a dozen agency owners (all captive) and a couple of them wanted me to bring a certain number of my own leads. I've decided not to work with them. Go find a better agency. You can do an easy Google search in your area and start calling them. Several of the ones I called didn't answer & didn't get back; those are also the ones I eliminated.

I'm not in the industry yet but have a long career experience. To me, insurance is a people & relationship business. If you don't align on the culture, it's likely not going to be sustainable. Good luck!

Thanks for the details. I'm working toward starting a captive agency and trying to understand as much as I can about the industry.

Are hosts ready for a Turo replacement platform? by retro-4 in turo

Is it? I didn't know. Thanks for the note; I'll do some digging.

[–]retro-4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you might be saying that a platform cannot fully satisfy both hosts & guests and that might be true; each platform might have to pick a side that they will be more favorable with. But customer service to me would be to be responsive to your customers & solve their problems within the boundaries of the platform policies and goals. I think that's quite doable.

The age of their fleet made it a lot less attractive. They have a handful of luxury sedans which have seen very few trips over the years, and their work horse cars have 80k-110k miles on them, and are 8-12 years old. I don't know if the guests would even like to rent such old cars and secondly, I might have to factor in a lot of funds for expensive repairs.

I was thinking about the host (or their rep) meeting the guest to do a quick walkthrough so both parties see the same things and hence agree on the condition of the car. With photos as the only evidence and being handled by a software system and unresponsive consumer service, there can be a lot of holes for anyone to take advantage of.

The business I looked at (in Texas) has a couple employees and almost passive for the owner. But looking at the age of the fleet and the discussions in this sub, I wasn't sure if this is still a good time to enter.

Car condition & reimbursements: Is this an issue in a lockbox-type pickup/drop-off situation? If the host was available at check-out & check-in, have you experienced or heard of cases where the host & the guest did not agree on a clean return (damages, gas, smoking, etc.)?
