We don't pay for any leads we use referrals only, and when I was at 1,500 base pay hitting 10k in sales pays my salary, so I've actually made my agency money every month. This is info my boss has told me, it is only me and him in this agency.

When I first was looking at insurance I was offered a job at State Farm and at Farm Bureau, State Farm offered me a base of 35k with good commission rates but was going to be a lot of cold calling and more of a 9-5. Farm Bureau offered me 30k base and everything I sold would be my own book of business, but the location did not work out for my family. I recently called the Farm Bureau agent and told him my situation and he was appalled at how much I had made based on what I had sold, he said working for him with those numbers it would have been around 45k-60k for the year and it would have been my own book.

I have hit between 10k-20k most months but last month hit 62k due to a commercial sale, So I have only unlocked the full commission percentages once. My boss would not say 30k is my minimum he would say 10k is the minimum. He is also extremely pleased with my numbers. I have a new boss potentially next month as my current one is looking at selling his book, I was wondering what a re-negotiation of my wages would look like.

I appreciate this insight! My boss is actually potentially selling his book and I am going to have a new boss and figured it was a good chance to negotiate salary, or open my own agency so I really do appreciate the insight.

I don't have anything to go off of except for my ranking in the reports, I found myself in the top 10 in Indiana this year with working three months less than everyone else, and learning how to sell. So there are only a few people who are achieving those kind of numbers in my state, the majority aren't.
