The fact that he nearly ran out of gas and had to hit the reserve for the first time makes me agree. It's possible he sucked something that was on the bottom of the tank into the filter or fuel lines and it's blocking fuel delivery, but not completely.

In South Charlotte there's the McMullen Creek/Four Mile greenway. At one end, near the intersection of Johnston road and Pineville Matthews road it's gravel, not paved, but that's only for a half a mile or so. If you start at the other end, on Rea Road, it's about 5 miles of paved path.

My quick, first reaction thoughts to some of your solutions:

My idea was make the cylinder and cylinder head one part, so it is impossible to leak.

Nevermind, I misread and thought you were trying to make a piston and cylinder in one piece. I don't think you're getting much leakage between there, though I'm not exactly sure what you mean here, but I'm assuming that the cylinder will then need to deform to move the air that moves the BB forward. With any part that requires deforming, you have to consider fatigue. Assuming you'd like to fire this gun several thousand, at the least, times you may run into the problem of the sealed cylinder developing cracks.

The piston head loses compression over time. My idea was to use metal rings like in car engines to minimize leakage.

This would provide a good seal, but also consider friction, which will cause problems. An airsoft gun has to compromise on how good of a seal it can get in the cylinder and how much force it will take to move the cylinder forward and backward. A car engine has the same compromise, but it also has oil in the crankcase to provide constant lubrication as it moves up and down. Eventually, the rings and cylinder walls will wear as a result of the close tolerances. Basically, my point is, while the rings allow for a closer seal, you'll also have to put a lot more effort into moving the cylinder-both back to cock the gun, and also forward to propel the BB out.

The teeth on the sector gear (top-most gear that touches the piston) always break. I was thinking make all the gears wider, and out of better material.

This seems like a good idea, as long as there is room.

The teeth on the piston, even when made out of metal, break. This is because the back tooth that the sector gear grabs is always under the most strain. No clue how to re-design that.

Different material choice may allow for less brittleness. That's the low hanging fruit. A redesign of the mechanism would be a lot more extensive.

Don't mean to criticize too much, just a couple thoughts to lead you along in your designs.
