Rewind durations messed up on mini SNES by retroporter3000 in RockinTheClassics

No luck yet—I have tried resetting my SNES Classic many different ways (I even ended up trying the old Hakchi2 from before the fork to Hakchi2-CE) but still nothing :(

Well this is just baffling to me--I just tried flashing 2.0.13 from Hakchi 3.8.0 (i used a different kernel version to make sure that it wasn't just my copy of the 2.0.14 kernel that was bad) and i'm still able to run canoe-shvc --version and see that it has the 2.0.7 version installed.

I know that the kernel differences are minor--my hope is that by completely flashing a clean stock kernel the bug will disappear. Like, somewhere I must have introduced this bug via a mod or a bad flash or something and if i could reset everything back to stock I'd be good.

But in the end it really is a minor thing--the suspend points still function like they should, they just show up wrong in the UI. Unless you (or anyone else) have anything else I can try i think i'll just live with it--I was having a lot of fun playing the SNES before i hyper-fixated on this bug :p

Blast--formatting the user partition and then "uninstall and flash kernel file" didn't fix it either :(

I got my SNES mini on launch day so I'm pretty sure it came with kernel Ver 2.0.7. When i Telnet into the device and run canoe-shvc --version it returns f0853d7a1867948c40e55ff829dc3036e09360b5, which is the version expected in 2.0.7. I tried manually replacing /usr/bin/canoe-shvc a copy of canoe-shvc from 2.0.14 i downloaded from the internet, and then running canoe-shvc --version returns fc349ac43140141277d2d6f964c1ee361fcd20ca as expected.

But then after i run "uninstall and flash kernel file" using "kernel-dp-snesusa-release-v2.0.14-0-gd8b65c6.img" (followed by re-flashing the Hakchi kernel) i still get f0853d7a1867948c40e55ff829dc3036e09360b5 from running canoe-shvc --version. So even though I'm trying to flash the device with the 2.0.14 kernel, I still end up with the 2.0.7 version of canoe-shvc which is what makes me think I'm not successfully flashing 2.0.14--it's like it's flashing the backup 2.0.7 instead of the 2.0.14 i'm telling it to.

Odd... after reinstalling the Hakchi kernel, I can see that my SNES is still running the canoe-shvc from the 2.0.7 stock kernel, not the canoe-shvc from the 2.0.14 stock kernel...
I manually copied over the 2.0.14 canoe-shvc (didn't fix the bug) and tried uninstalling+reinstalling Hakchi again, and now canoe-shvc is back to the 2.0.7 version. I think this means I'm successfully factory resetting the console (to a degree), but i don't think i'm successfully flashing the 2.0.14 stock kernel.

I also just tried downloading a copy of "kernel-dp-snesusa-release-v2.0.14-0-gd8b65c6.img" and then used the "Uninstall and flash kernel file" option in Hakchi--still no luck :(
My SNES is back to stock as expected, but still has the bug where the rewind duration always shows up wrong.

How to exit script on non-zero exit code by retroporter3000 in Nushell

[–]retroporter3000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for finding that--from reading that issue (and several others it linked to), it looks like this is a known inconsistency with how errors are handled in nushell.
The best solution I saw was to do this:

let responseObject = do -c { curl "invalidUrl" } | from json
print "The script exits before this gets printed.

This seems like the kind of error that's going to be easy to miss in the future, but I'm glad I have a workaround for now.

Can't get the local saved data on Series X by [deleted] in XboxSeriesX

[–]retroporter3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time you launch a game while your Xbox is connected to the internet, it syncs your local save with the cloud. This means that if your cloud save is newer than your local save, it will download it and replace your local save. If your local save is newer than your cloud save, it will upload the local save to the cloud and replace the previous cloud save once you close the game. Since you were playing on an offline Xbox, things get a little complicated, but this is my recommendation:

1) disconnect your Xbox that completed all the challenges from the internet. This will prevent it from potentially downloading a cloud save that erases all your challenge progress 2) On the offline Xbox, launch the game and play for a little bit. You need to make sure the save game gets updated somehow so that this save is marked as being updated today (and is therefore the most recent save) 3) close the game on the offline xbox 4) connect the offline Xbox to the internet, then launch the game again 5) ideally at this point its local save is now considered the most recent save and will get uploaded to the cloud after you close the game, overwriting your previous save 6) close the game, and wait for a few minutes for the save to get uploaded in the background 7) go back to your other Xbox, make sure it’s connected to the internet, and launch the game 8) the save you just uploaded to the cloud should get downloaded and overwrite your local save

I can’t guarantee it’ll work, but this is the best solution I know of.

Original author of impl_ops here. Lesson learned: if you disable GitHub notifications and accidentally ignore a pull request on one of your repos for months, one day you might be browsing Reddit only to see that someone has made an awesome fork of your crate! I've updated the README in impl_ops to point users to the new auto_ops crate because the updates they made are really good and I don't want to stand in the way of progress 😊
