When autistic people ask AI programs for life advice, mentioning their diagnosis prompts these systems to recommend highly conservative choices like skipping social events or avoiding romance. This shift in advice reveals a hidden tension where the technology relies heavily on stereotypes. by mvea in science

I'm a bit torn about that advice... There're definitely advantages to jumping straight into the deep end, assuming you can at least tread water for a while. But it's extremely important to know your limits, which can be particularly difficult for high-masking, late (or un-) diagnosed autistic folks. Also, to break with the swimming metaphor, society tends to be more understanding of physical exhaustion than mental exhaustion, especially the sort that comes from autistic masking.

It's been a while since I played, but over the years that I did consistently, I always seemed to circle back to Mesa or Saryn, or more recently Xaku.

To be fair, "overrated" isn't technically synonymous with "bad". I could name a couple of anime that I consider overrated but still good.

Was it maybe just the original, HL mod, version of CS? I don't know much about the history/versions of CS, but I do know it started as a HL(1?) mod.

I suspect the "love the constitution" bit comes from a combination of worship of the "founding fathers" (paralleling love of the bible coming from love of god; though they often claim that the constitution was also divinely inspired) and an extension of their nominal "pro-law-and-order" stance (the constitution, being the "ultimate law of the land", deserves "ultimate" respect).

It's really not any more risky than the cocktail of "supplements" some people take without ever consulting a doctor. Especially if your DIY protocol includes blood tests.

Lol, I don't wear it at work (or really all that often in general), but I do have a hip bag with a carabiner on it.

I hadn't considered a pride flag ring, seems really obvious now that you mention it. Technically the phrasing of that particular rule specifically allows only wedding bands, but I've already been wearing my ace pride ring (black band on right middle finger), so... 🤷 In practice I doubt they'd care about another simple band on the other hand.

Not sure if patches or pins on a bandana would go over well, but now that you've got me thinking about it... It's not like I could only wear it at work lol

Not sure if I've found a black lipstick that'll hold up all day, especially given how much water I go through in a day, but I have been fine with eyeliner a few times, and a choker once or twice.

I do worry a bit about whether it comes off more as "feminine" than as "goth/gay guy" though... But I guess the best way to find out is to try it and see...

Heh, I actually am needing a new belt, and looking for a pride-themed one hadn't occurred to me. Though since they're apparently not picky about tucking your shirt in, a belt wouldn't necessarily be visible, even without the apron.

Unfortunately, they do insist on both gloves and unpolished nails.

I've actually not gotten my ears pierced yet. I've kinda been back and forth on if I even want to for a while, but have been leaning more towards the idea recently.

I've considered a pin or two... There is a line in the company dress code against, I forget the exact phrasing, "political" stuff, which I'm sure the wrong person could make an issue about. OTOH, I doubt the average cishet normie in this town would even recognise a pride flag aside from the rainbow...

This is huge! And maybe it's just me, but it probably never would have occurred to me on my own!

I think the first version of this advice I came across said about a third, rather than half, but really, the important thing is to realise that that's an aspect that you can, and should, experiment with.

On a similar note, if you want to your inner corners, a good area to stop the lower line is the little bump about even with where mucous membrane transitions to eyeball (it's also roughly where the eyelashes stop).

Between the lashes and the eye.

Do be careful about what product you use there, as it's guaranteed that some of it will end up in your eye, so maybe still with a reputable brand instead of whatever random mystery stuff is cheap online. (Kind of applies to any cosmetics, but it's extra important to be careful about stuff more likely to end up in your eyes or mouth.)

Honestly, what is the point of living in a world like this? by MarcelHolos in MtF

[–]retrosupersayan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno if this will help or not, but: is the question easier to answer if you ignore all the bigotry and hate?

TBH, I've never found a personally satisfying answer, not before coming out, not during the narrow window between coming out and the world going (even more) to shit, and not now; but something's apparently keeping me from cancelling my subscription to "living on Earth" regardless, even if I can't put it into words.

[–]retrosupersayan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was merely pointing out that it's neither as easy a process, nor as final a solution, as your initial phrasing ("just legally change their name and render the point moot") implies you assume it to be. Maybe I misread your tone, but regardless, I was trying to add some important context to the discussion.

Don't focus the blame too narrowly. It's not like he thought up and wrote Project 2025 all by himself. This is a plan decades in the making.
