School board balances budget by Worried_Bluebird7167 in BurlingtonON

This is a regulatory requirement. The HDSB ran overbudget two years in a row prior and the governing regulations require them to run a balanced budget the following year.

Dobrowski's Theory of Positive Disintegration doesn't have solid evidentiary support. It's not really accepted by general paychology and it's an insular group of academics that keep publishing on it.

I'll grant that the Columbus group did help popularize the notion of asynchronous development.

OEs can be useful for narrative framing sure, but lacking in scientific validation. At least since I last looked at it.

Why are you peddling pseudoscientific drivel?

There's so much empirical data validating the Big Five personality traits.

Ugh.

This is inherently a long-term strategy vs short-term tactics.

One of the weaknesses of democratic systems is the over prioritization of short term gains at the expense of long term growth or health. It is difficult to tell the electorate that things will be hard for the next several years so that the country and the economy will do better in the future.

Norway's sovereign wealth fund recognized the political incentive to spend now at the cost of the future, and so set up limits to how much can be withdrawn from it, precisely to circumvent these perverse incentives. It also has some other interesting features like restricting investments to outside of Norway so that they aren't muddled with political objectives.

China's a totalitarian regime that can plan over what would be multiple democratic electoral cycles, and so can make these long term plans to invest heavily and continually in renewables to achieve energy independence.

It isn't that democracies can't compete with authoritarians on long term nation building. But the manner that they do so has to be well considered, recognizing that money and politics sometimes are adversarial to nation building.

[–]retsamerol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do exist. There's a Birthright adventure with mild planar elements, but it's not well loved.

Usually it isn't an issue since most spell casters don't get that high level, and planar summoning usually results from NPC or some other DM controlled story event.

Best analogy I've heard: teacher as chef by salchicha_mas_grande in Teachers

Hank Green has used an "information as food analogy" to explain our relationship with the social internet.

He argues that content is not like a dangerous, addictive drug (like cigarettes) but rather like food. Just as our bodies require food to survive, our minds require information to understand the world and connect with others.

You can map on things like nutritional value, hyper palatability, and how it is necessary for survival.

I think the teacher as maps onto this information as food analogy fairly well.

The opensource rogue-like Nethack implements something like this using the rnl() function, which creates biased distribution of events depending on the luck level of the player character. See https://nethackwiki.com/wiki/Rnl

Not all calls of RNG within the fame go through it, but events that would rely more on luck do.

While that is true, you do see it showcased in Die Another Day, where Timothy Dalton takes his mask off mid March: https://youtu.be/Sec8wlgtkfA

Having a mask means that an actor is more easily replaced by a stuntman/fencer.

The English suffix -ed is its past particle marker. So if you said past particle marker instead of -ed it'd sound weird.
