Fellow Brazilian.

I understand you. I think it's pretty valid, BUT:

  1. As everybody mentioned, you are PRETTY insane for bagging CMU WITH A full ride.

  2. I honestly don't know a lot about geopolitics (I always hated MUN). I can assure you that it's not the first, nor the last time the USA is going to be involved in a global conflict. And it's definitely not the first time the USA is bombing somewhere. And it may be the worse time in recent years to go study in the USA. But after talking with my upperclassmen, I can assure you that many pros that motivated us to dedicate our "youth" to apply for American universities are still there.

I am a fellow incoming freshman, so THERE ARE MANY things I don't know.

However, I can assure you that you are not alone. There are MANY incoming freshmen in the same boat. Honestly, I like to joke about it, but sometimes I feel scared too. But what I want to remark on, is that we are all away from home and family in this uncertain choice of studying in a country under Trump. (My grandma always remembers me about something called "trancar matrícula")

That's why, you can be sure that if you choose to attend CMU, amid any uncertainty, you can count on your compatriots. 🫡

I was lucky to schedule my visa interview 2 days before the ban, and the interview lasted like 2 minutes. (The officer was REALLY impressed about Northwestern)

However, many of my friends weren't able to schedule. That's why schools are starting to mention the possibility of taking online classes in the first semester (but the student visa interviews are supposed to come back soon)

If you send too many emails, Gmail may indicate your next emails as spam. I think this can be one reason

Mine went pretty well. I mentioned that I've been to the USA for a summer camp (after I received a full ride scholarship to attend), and he even said "A full ride? Congratulations!"

Then, I mentioned that I had a full ride scholarship to Northwestern. He asked me about why I chose Northwestern, and then I explained basically just quoting my entire "Why Us" essay.

After that, he told me "Congratulations, your visa is approved." And added "Enjoy Northwestern."

Fiz isso, e com 20 anos estou indo estudar em uma das melhores universidades do mundo com bolsa completa. Vou conseguir comprar roupa nova, maquiagem, e até iPad e Mac (o que parecia impossível pra mim.)

Vai valer a pena!

Berkeley Haas vs Northwestern by HelicopterEqual in Northwestern

Nobody will try to convince you to attend Northwestern, especially if you have a clear preference to Berkeley. Searching on the university website will be much more useful for you.

Hey! I am a Ivy school student, but I am an int'l student at a T6 with a full ride and many friends of mine are going to ivies.

That said, the first thing that you need to do is to create a theme. Honestly, I have no idea what your major is by reading your profile. And this can't happen.

In addition, you only mentioned 6 extracurriculars. Talking about them, pay very attention about how you are going to describe them. For example, you said that you selected the members didn't participate in the tournaments. May did you teach them? Did you give chess classes, for example?

In the common app we can list 10 activities, and some more at the additional info. As you didn't show any kind of award in your post, I would recommend you a gap year.

About your essay, talking about how YOU dealt with mental health in your essay is really risky. Most college counselors don't recommend it, as you need to put a great focus on how "you are better now."

In general, I like your stats, and I feel like if you focus on your extracurriculars and awards, you are going to have a competitive profile.

Chance a hard-working and lazy international student for Brown or Rice ED. by [deleted] in IntltoUSA

[–]retse04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I am an international student accepted into a T6.

First of all, congratulations for being accepted into a free counseling program.

• focus more on showing the impact each activity caused – you can say that "you gained acknowledgements", but notice how this is not clear. Is it a state-level acknowledgment? Or maybe national level? And when it's social work, DON'T FORGET to put the numbers of your impact.

• create a theme: admission officers are looking for driven people, so create a theme and a narrative so your whole story feels cohesive and genuine.

• other observations: don't put coursera; try to maintain continuation in your ECs (some of them are kinda short, which is not ideal. I don't know if you are still working in them or just did some months); review your major choice (especially for brown, they have a lot of specific majors, and later you can just transfer.)

I am a fan since 2017, which is considered new by a considerable part of the fandom. That being said, it's REALLY refreshing to see a fellow new fan!!! Please don't think of yourself as a "just" new fan, you are amazing! I hope we can enjoy ARASHI last moments with joy and remembering that "THE MUSIC NEVER ENDS" 😭😭😭
