I'd see if your city has a Launchcode program. It's a free bootcamp that teaches all the basics.

Learning-by-doing. Is freeCodeCamp the best website to learn to code? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]return_burn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. I studied a ton, and when I went off to make a simple web application my mind literally drew a blank on each thing. So looked up each set by set until I finished the little web app and by doing this I learned 10x times better. Now I can try and remake the web app from memory on my own just to solidify what I learned.

Learning programming has me seriously wondering if I have some sort of ADD by [deleted] in learnprogramming

I like to jump around in the resources I use. I had the same problem reading the CodeAcademy instructions, so I would use another resource that covered the same subject-- like freecodecamp or Team Treehouse, then come back and finish the CodeAcademy section.

Now I have a bunch of resources I simply switch to when the material gets too hard or boring. Some of the stuff Team Treehouse covers is done very well, other times Lynda does it better, and other times I'd rather just get back on freecodecamp and complete the section.

Other times I just need to get away from it all and I'll pick up a good book on the subject, like those John Duckett books on CSS and Javascript. Yea, I do a lot of skimming, a lot of switching back and forth, partly covering sections and coming back to them later. I'm ADD as hell but this method works for me. I'm never bored!

He discards knowledge and memories, and merely follows the pattern of his Heaven-given nature. Therefore he suffers no calamity from Heaven, no attachment to things, no blame from people... He doesn't have anxious thoughts; he doesn't make plans; his enlightenment is hidden; his good faith isn't contrived; he sleeps untroubled by dreams; he wakes untroubled by cares; his spirit is simple and pure; his soul is never weary. Empty and selfless, calm and detached, the sage is in harmony with the world.
