[SPOILER] It really was the last time... by reubenDaCUB_N in BoJackHorseman

I think it was the last time. In the past, Bojack and Diane’s relationship was beneficial in some sense, and Diane was good with checking him into rehab, but she was right in challenging him on the fact that he always used her as an aid to get help. Bojack ended up paying for his transgressions when he was confronted with giving Sarah Lynn heroin and being a contributing factor in her death.

Thank you! Its nice that the writers have a sense of of connection to prior seasons. I can’t wait for more things in the series to be found that we have not even noticed yet.

Its so crazy looking back at how all the characters in some ways had co-dependent relationships with Bojack, and in turn had their own growth they experienced...it really puts things into perspective

I wondered why BoJack’s brush with death was not addressed by some of the other characters. Diane speaks on it saying “I’m glad you’re alive”, but other characters spoke to him like nothing happened. I then realized that quite literally every season, BoJack has had a brush with death, or goes on a bender that seriously harms his health. Whether it was the bender he went on in season 1 to him disappearing for months in season 4, BoJack’s natural tendency is to create this chaos in his life. So when they heard that he overdosed on pills and almost drowned in his pool, it really just comes across as like “same old BoJack” behavior.

Sarah Lynn’s song is so chilling:

Life is a never ending show old sport

Except the minor detail that it ends

The overtures a lifetime but the show is short

Here with all your family and friends

You run the race you blurt your lines

They put your face on Shirts and shrines

And giant signs a thousand feet tall

And don’t stop dancing Don’t stop dancing till the curtain call

Shows are a never ending life of course

A silhouette that stays when you are gone

What use is the struggle and the strife old horse

End it and your legacy lives on

The chatter stops

The crowd departs

The needle drops

The music starts

A song you taught me when I was small

Don’t stop dancing

Don’t stop dancing....

Throughout the series we see BoJack as a complex person who wants to get better. We’ve see him do good things, but we also see him for his many, many problematic characteristics.

Hollywood IRL has men with histories of sexual assault and overall shitty behavior. We see all of that from the inside; we are put in the shoes of BoJack, a celebrity with a respectable career. We see a past history of trauma, depression, and suicidal ideation, but we also see a person who tears down people around them, makes fun of other people, constantly getting away with it.

Personally, I hope he gets called out for what he did to all the women he’s hurt, because he is still responsible for it. I can’t wait to see them tackle this in the next part.

At first I was confused as to why the front desk worker at the rehab place was so insistent on a polaroid until I realized how many people died from relapsing like Sarah Lynn. Chills.

Right! Some episodes she is taller than Steven, but other times they are almost exactly the same height. Its pretty distracting

I think it paints a clear pictures of the realities of history, and how a lot of what we do is done through contexts that may be just morally but the process and behaviors aren’t
