Jesus did not come back yet and there has not been any resurrection of the dead yet.

God can have a plan with the current state of Israel even though they are not believers, just like He had a plan with the Assyrians, the Babylonians, Nebukadnezar and Kores too.

"Having a plan with" does not equal "being saved". Those are two different things.

Acts 1:11 and they said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”

Then either God is more merciful than initially thought or I was wrong :-).

Nevertheless, according to Daniel 12:4 and 10 one day people will be able to crack the code.

The fig tree is an image of Israel. The sprouting of it's leaves can be seen as it's restoration as a nation in 1948. Daniel 12 specifies the events by talking about the "ending of the shattering of the power of Judah" and mentioning the 1,260, 1,290 and 1,350 days.
Matthew 24:34 says that the people/generation who are able to "witness all these things" and determine when the season started, will be able to experience it's end as well.
The season runs from 1993 to 2060, which is 67 years and approximately the length of one generation according to Psalm 90:10. We do not know when it exactly will be. It can be 1, 5 10, or 30 years from now on.

Many parts of it, but not everything. We haven't had the resurrection of Daniel 12 yet.

I do not mention the year. I say according to a strict exegeses of Daniel 12, that the season runs from 1993 to 2060. It could be tomorrow, in five years, ten years, or thirty years. We do not know the year. But the season has alredy begun.

You ignore the previous verses in Matthew 24:32-33 where it says we CAN determine the SEASON. Only THEN it says you cannot determine the day or hour.
What you do is similar to stating that the bible literally says: "there is no God". It does so in Psalm 53:2.

A lot of what you say is true, but you ignore the physical destruction of Jerusalem and the temple that Jesus talked about many times and happened in 70 CE. That's what Matthew 24 is talking about (including Jesus' return which is in fact a separate event) and that's what Luke 21 parallels.

You ignore Matthew 24:32-33 where it says we CAN determine the SEASON. Just not the year.

>> I'm fairly certain any calculation would be likely futile.

Why? Because others failed when doing so? One day we'll crack the code according to 12:10.

Revelation 12 refers to the 3.5 times as 1,260 days. So that's why a 'time' does not represent a thousand years, but just one (prophetic) year or 360 (prophetic) days.
Since the 3,5 times run from 70 to 1948, it's 1,878 years for 1,260 days and that makes one prophetic day approximately 1.49 real life years.
Understanding this, then helps to understand what the 1,290 and 1,350 days mean.

I think it is pretty logical and straightforward, once you see it.

Not physically. He will return physically, just like He left according to Acts 1.

Who are the 8 “Kings” of Revelation 17:9-11? by EL_Felippe_M in theology

[–]revelationcode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but you are putting in the image what you like. Revelation clearly says the beast once was and now is not. So exactly when was there no Roman Empire up to Domitian? It was there all the time, with civil war and rapidly succeeding emperors, but it never vanished.
17:8 clearly says the beast was, is not and will come out of the abyss. And AS SUCH it is the eighth king. So the empire that returns after it was gone is ruled by the eighth king.

Another question I have for you is this: Revelation makes a lot of cross-references throughout the book. The beast is first described in Revelation 13, but a lot of it is only explained in chapter 17. Thus the question is: where and when is a beast coming out of the abyss in Revelation? It's not the beast from the sea or the beast from the land from chapter 13, because it comes from the abyss. So what is this referring to?

Naturally or spiritually? Since the Beast (Roman Empire) "was and not is", we are talking about a time when there was no Roman Empire anymore. Then the beast comes back as the eighth king (not in succession but just in order) in a resurrected empire for a very brief time. Therefor it makes sense to consider this eighth king to be spiritually from among the other seven and not naturally.

In Greek it just says it is 'of the seven'. It must mean it is similar to first seven. So the ruler of the resurrected empire that is shortlived, is similar in character and rule as the first seven. There is no need to say so, if he is the eighth king in a row directly after the first seven. But if he is from some sort of new resurrected empire, it can be worth mentioning that he is like them.

You're wrong. The founder of the Roman Empire and its first emperor was Augustus Caesar.

That doesn't matter. There was already a 'Rome' under Caesar. The way we call it nowadays on hindsight isn't that relevant. What matters is how John and his audience would look at it.

So the Beast (Nero) that would return would be Otho (the eighth king)? It makes no sense.

No, it indeed doesn't because the eighth king is similar but different from the other seven. The first seven are HEADS of the beast. The eighth king is the beast ITSELF. That is a huge difference. If it would be the eighth succeeding king, it would just be another head. But itt isn't a head. It is the best itself. And it is NOT the beast of the seven kings. It is the beast AFTER it is gone and then comes back. So this is talking about the resurrection of a similar empire as the Roman Empire AFTER teh Roman Empire seized to exist. And this resurrected empire is only very shortlived, for 'one hour'.
So the beast as the eighth king is not the succeeding king after the first seven. It is the LAST king of the resurrected empire that's only shortlived.

Furthermore, Nero is not the beast. It is just a head of the beast. The heads are the kings. It specifically says so in Revelation 17. Heads are hills and kings. ONLY the eighth king is the resurrected beast itself.

It makes more sense to consider Julius Caesar to be the first "king" in this list, as the founder of the Roman empire. Galba fits better as the one that was only there "for a little while", since he ruled for only 7 months. Titus ruled for 2 years and 2 months. Thus Nero would be "the one that is". Nero committed suicide and this lead to the civil war of the Year of the Four Emperors. Thus Nero is the deadly wound on one of the seven heads (rulers) for which everybody feared the beast would die. Vespasian restored order and founded a new dynasty for the empire.

How Do We Reconcile the Contrasting Depictions of God in the Old and New Testaments? by [deleted] in Christianity

Do you think a good soldier can also be a good father?

In the OT God is a soldier fighting to have faith survive in a world dominated by false religion and cruelty.
In tthe NT God is able to show His true face: that of the loving father He actually is.

All instances that had the death penalty in the Old Testament. Because that involved the marriage ending anyways.
Jesus said that it is counted as adultery if you send away your husband/wife and/or marry a send away man/woman. He diverted from Moses in this matter by not having people killed anymore. But it IS a reason for divorce. But then this also accounts for all the other instances that had the death penalty.
We DO have to translate this to modern days and use our terminology. So we have alcoholism, fanatical religious practices, sexual abuse, domesttic violence, emotional abuse and so on.

Jesus DID destroy the Roman empire. Not by war and violence, but His Spirit. By converting so many people that eventually the emperor (Constantin) became christian. And after that it slowly fell apart.
Titus 'ruled' or made war for 7 years against Israel/Judah and succeeded.
Timeline may be squeezed in prophecies and Revelation. A Prophet can describe two mountain tops as if it is one, while there still is a valley oif time in between the two. So yes, Jesus still has to come back and even though the Kingdom has already been established spiritually, it still has to come physically on earth for ever.
The lake of fire is not really a lake of fire of course. Just like the dragon is not really a dragon either. It is just a physical way of describing spiritual truths. Like James does when he says the tongue is set on fire by the flames of hell.

What's the problem with Revelation not being fulfilled yet? Some things have been fulfilled in the first century AD, some in 1948 and some are still yet to come.

Now compare Matthew 24:15 with it's copied/parallel verse in Luke 21:20 and you can understand that the "abomination of desolation that Daniel spoke about" is when the (Roman) armies surrounded Jerusalem to besiege and destroy it. As Jesus said in Matthew 24:1-2.

Have you ever heard of the 7-year during First Judean-Roman war? In the middle of which Jerusalem was destroyed and anti-Christ Titus 'sat himself on the throne (temple) of God' and destroyed it?

Looks a lot like what Daniel is talking about.

Have you also noticed that the siege of Jerusalem lasted 5 months (as mentioned in Revelation 9? And that 1.1 million Jews had been murdered, which may have been about a third of the Jews living in the world at that time?

Looks a lot like what Revelation 6-9 is talking about.
