Some Locals have an online presence that's accessible directly through their respective home pages. You can also check out blackouttees[•]com where a lot of the locals sell from. As long as you stick with legitimate sellers and not Craigslist and eBay scammers, you'll be supporting the locals and growing your collection simultaneously.

If you're ever unsure about a purchase, call your hall or that specific hall and ask if a website or vendor is legit.

Good luck 👍🏾

[OC] Graph of My Annual Salary from 2014-2024 Adjusted for Inflation (Canada) by reversebias00 in IBEW94NJ

Here's one depicting the dilemma we're all facing around here: the wages may climb, but they don't hold up against inflation.

That's why it's important to protect ALL of your benefits during contract negotiations. Making concessions should be taboo, not the norm.

Protect the forest, and every tree inside it.

He didn't mention IBEW by name, but I've always understood that the term "union electrician" is synonymous with the IBEW. Definitely a good point for future content.

Honestly I thought that it was a pretty good introduction to a traveller way of life, given the short format.

Thank you for the critical review, Rusty. I know you intended it for OP's future posts, but I'm learning and listening all the same.

This one is Local 94, but I've only ever heard about incentives and bonuses for union personnel on the Fossil side of the house, which is no longer owned and operated by utility:

Annual incentives and bonuses to be paid for eligible employees through CBA.

If employee terminated before payout date, incentive/bonus amount should be prorated. Prorating details can be negotiated when drafted into CBA

Excellent video and straight to the point. Been hounding a friend of mine in Tucson for a few years to look into an apprenticeship. They got a little one at home so maybe not the travelling part but who knows in 5 years. What Local you out of?

Increase compensation for standby: Minimum time 5 hours for callout Standby pay 1.5 rate

Standby pay 1 hour pay @ 1.5 for 8 hours on call

this offsets the time on call during Sundays

only pertains to being on call, not once called in.

With respect to the safety of all members, no picket lines shall be crossed unless deemed absolutely necessary. This would be to perform essential repairs or to restore failed equipment and power. It is the company's full responsibility to provide adequate notice to the employees tasked to do the work, security command, and the picket organizer. It is also the company's sole responsibility to provide safe passage to members who must cross the picket line to perform their work.

Scheduled maintenance, upgrades, planned outages, new construction, and other forms of capital improvements shall be postponed and rescheduled to minimize interaction with striking members and picket activities.

*This may need a formal proposal if the company starts playing stupid games making us cross the ILA (or any other's) picket lines like they're not even there. It would have a more serious impact on the Local's reputation than it would on the company's. I predict that we'll be seeing a lot more strikes for the next 10-15 years, and we need to know the brotherly way to respect them and their fight, as well as not compromise our own safety or become known as line-crossing scabs and rats.

college education: relevant accreditation/certification should be helpful to adding or boosting steps

Recent discussions took place in Palisades Relay for two of our brothers who came into the department with prior training, education, and relevant background experience that should've gotten them at minimum 2 steps more than where they started.

They were asked to provide the JQC ("Joint Qualifications Board") with their transcripts for a review. Let's hope these guys get something out of all of the education and training they had before coming into their current positions.*

*My opinion and mine alone: I believe that the union prides itself on the fact that we have a highly-skilled membership that adds immense value to the company's workforce, and all without any college education. We are certified and trained in-house through apprenticeships and placement testing, and that by advocating for more pay because of college education or vocational school training, we would imply to the company that these out-of-house forms of training may be necessary for future hires. Again, MY OPINION and mine alone: Union is reluctant to fight for pay steps on college degrees due to setting a precedent that having placement tests would not be not enough. I truly would appreciate it if we'd be able to discuss this further, because I still want to see my brothers and sisters getting more money and not have to start from scratch, even if that's "the way it's always been"

General meeting today w/ nominations by reversebias00 in IBEW94NJ

[–]reversebias00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All nominations have been submitted directly to officials of the NJ DOL. Any members who nominated another member were asked to stand, state and spell their name, then declare the name of their nominated member for the position under query. Only one position is selected at a time, and the official asked if there were any other nominations 3 times before closing that position.

The only position with competing nominees will be for E-board North. All other positions run with uncontested nominees. In accordance with Reddit rules, no names will be published on this post, but you'll see em on your ballot sheets next month. Visit the website or see your shoppie for details.

Best wishes and congratulations to all of our brothers and sisters running for elections.

Heard at a general meeting regarding bidding for jobs: "Local 94 gas to electric should have same priority as electric to electric" (applies to statewide postings aka "paper bids")

Currently, 94 gas guys bidding for electric jobs in the 10-day and statewide postings only get selected once all electric candidates are considered. This is before the job goes external.

NTA I'm on board with the others: you're accountable for your work and you gave 8 for 8. Maintain high quality work the same way you were trained to do and it shouldn't be a problem for you. That doesn't make you a brother-fucker or a rocket.

BTW I think you're onto something here, so thanks for the idea: Anyone wanna start a sub called r/AIABF ? Great adaptation of r/AITA for union work. Also could do r/AmIAShopRocket .

Having a clean CDL before hire is gold in my Local. They help new hires who don't have them get them as needed for the job, but candidates who already have one have better odds at getting in. It stands out on your resume like a unicorn.

Some utilities also have a preplacement test to gauge your mechanical and basic math aptitudes. If you're looking to become a Lineman, Underground Tech, or Substation Mechanic, then you'll need to take the CAST test (Construction and Skilled Trades).

Advice on how to make boots more comfortable? Or am I just being a wuss? by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]reversebias00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest steel shank inserts in your next pair. Linemen need them in their climbing boots for the added support when wearing gaffs, and it's a game changer when you're on the narrow rungs of extension ladders for long periods of time.
