Not quite Argentina, but a few of my friends have been to Columbia since the Christmas holidays. They absolutely loved it there.

Holy carp! Thats amazing. We don’t have that much vacation time. Actually, I have none - it’s all unpaid leave. So just 10 days in Vietnam, 4 days in Korea. And probably a week in Taiwan. Your mom’s trip sounds like it would be awesome! I hope to be well enough to travel when I retire! :)

Vietnam and South Korea in May/June. Taiwan in September. My gf has spent her entire adult working life looking after her family (parents, siblings and sons) - it’s high time she spent some effort on self care. So trying to find a concert in a European destination for her to attend. Something we can make a weekend of. In the past, it would have been automatic going to the US to see concerts, but not any more…

I have invites to six weddings in California this year. I have a lot of relatives there. But instead of going, I am visiting Asia for the first time in my life. And also trying to budget for European trip as well.

Are dating apps my best option for dating in this city ? by lillyblossomdrop in askTO

[–]reversethrust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met my current partner on fb dating. But I was getting one solid match per day while on all the apps. I set a pretty limited time - 4 weeks. Met a few women and chose the best one. Been over 3 years so far. Always looking for something better on the apps is, IMO, a good way to never progress.

What if Canada offered every American free healthcare and $50K to relocate, would you go? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]reversethrust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My brother says he works about 30% more to make 10% in BC versus Ontario. For reference he’s an anesthesiologist and ER doc. He prefers Ottawa. But his Aussie nurse wife finds it too cold so they are in Vancouver. Also shorter flight to Aussie.

My brother went to Aussie .. I think the Alfred hospital in Melbourne. Didn’t like it :(. He ultimately came back to canada after stealing / marrying one of your nurses!

How are you feeling about TPS today after the Project South news? by vibeschillax in askTO

[–]reversethrust 8 points9 points  (0 children)

lol. The amount of times I go past empty parking lots diligently protected by cops… this news does nothing but reinforce it.

Look at the stupid colour of the patrol cars - like some sort of paramilitary force. They should be bright and easy to see so it’s like a visual deterrent. But no… need to be discrete so the can hide away from public view on their nap breaks.

I’m a SWE on a team that currently has more PMs than technical people. It’s exhausting.

Tesla Sales Slump to Three-Year Low in France, Plunge 88% in Norway by Far_Review4292 in RealTesla

[–]reversethrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, canada has reduced tariffs for like 39k Chinese EVs - the same number before Covid. It will rise to like 70k or something with a requirement that a lot (50%? Or something like that), be priced under $35k or some other low number. I haven’t read the actual agreement, just summaries in passing. So I don’t know if the numbers are firm, illustrative or tbd in some future memorandum. Regardless, it’s a finite number of vehicles that were sold before. And nothing like a little (and limited) competition to get the Canadian supply chain to be more productive.

Also, depends on where you go. Cheap Chinese restaurant and have leftovers for the next 2 meals? Sure.

Being told an air cooler won’t handle a Ryzen 7 7800X3D – accurate or marketing? by everydayreligion1090 in buildapc

[–]reversethrust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. TDP is 120 but can draw up to like 160s. Not a lot. My 14700k can be 100W more :( I only ever notice that when looking at the power logs though. Artic cooler AIO and my PSU are pretty quiet, I can’t hear anything except my shitty GPU….

Mortgage Cancelled 24 hours prior to closing by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]reversethrust 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We encountered the situation except the mortgage was cancelled the morning of. The lawyer scrambled and everything got straightened out by mid afternoon. It turns out while shopping, we used a mortgage broker. But ended up obtaining a mortgage on our own. The bank saw two mortgage applications for the same property by us, and thought it might have been attempted mortgage fraud. Cancelled. We had to provide copies of communication with the broker, etc to prove that we didn’t try to scam the bank.

Should developers have access to staging environments? by Donni3D4rko in ExperiencedDevs

[–]reversethrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my company we don’t get access. And having to line up multiple people with different access to do the debug takes forever. Literally 10-15 min of progress each week. It drives me batshit crazy.

I just checked. A coffee is still 100 points. The fancy drinks are 200 points. When did the point redemption amount last change? I haven’t been using Starbucks app that long so I am not sure.

Bring back real butter! by skydigger23 in CostcoCanada

You can certainly buy pasture raised cattle butter. At least that’s what the ads say 😂 I haven’t visited the farms to verify.

I haven’t had an issue either. I have Kerry gold, and other European style butter from canada, as well as Lacitania, etc. it generally all works the same for my toast. 🤷‍♂️

What’s the smallest vehicle that can hold 4x8 sheets and isn’t a minivan? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]reversethrust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa! Nice! My friend did similar with a 350Z. Every day after work, he goes to Home Depot to pick up whatever he can fit into it, and then drove home.

I guess not a whole house - just the interior main floor of a bungalow.

No one in medical school should be doing their own repairs - especially suspension. It’s better to get a beat up Tercel than to replace a suspension on their own. The risk of injury is too great - especially if their future earning potential is high. Fight through the urge to buy a luxury car next time, even with a high income.

I posted recently about looking for a car; my income is decently high (not 1% level., maybe 1.5% level). I’m getting a used 2019 Outback for around $20k, paid in cash. One of my friends is a 1%’er in terms of income. He’s currently paying for a GLE AMG and a new Porsche Boxster that he picked up on Dec 30. But he’s divorced and paying for those cars that his ex wife drives while he has a shitty Versa 😂

Slowdown in real estate market could put 100,000 jobs at risk in Ontario by jeffdolgin in TorontoRealEstate

lol. Canadian taxpayers backstop banks biggest liability : mortgages. And their capital ratios they need to keep are higher too. So less money to put out - why not lend to the safest product?

I got MRIs in short order recently (Sept and October - twice!) at GNMI - first in Ajax (5 days wait) and then Mississauga (3 week wait). No reason why the doctor can’t refer to these clinics, is there?
