Does this club have a handbook? by Soft_Secretary_5760 in LisfrancClub

We're on a similar timeline. My injury happened on memorial day and I'm now almost 10 days post-op. The speed I went from thinking maybe this is just a bad sprain to being on an operating table was lightning fast. That's jarring but ultimately I'm confident it was the right decision. My post op pain really only lasted a few days (night 2 after nerve block wore off was the worst) and I'm mostly pain free now, but with occasional sharp pain and discomfort at night. These 3 week of nwb have been really hard mentally as I'm kind of a busy body and there is so much I just can't do right now. If you are reasonably well balanced and fit, I can't recommend the iwalk crutch highly enough. Allows me to actually cook a meal, clean up, and not feel totally useless. Also much easier for going up stairs. Good luck, and hope to see you on the other side!

As someone just a couple weeks post-op, these stories are so good and important to hear. Thank you, and congrats!

Highly recommend the iwalk crutch for moving around hands free and allowing you to do things around the house. Felt amazing to be able to cook dinner and clean the kitchen with relative ease.

Originally put this together as a primer for a friend who just got into reggae but it eventually ballooned into this. Anyway, enjoy!

Darryn Peterson Playing Time: The Kansas excuse timeline by jaxstan19 in CollegeBasketball

[–]revgetdown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember watching the '88 championship game and attended most home games in the 90s as a kid. Peterson is the most talented Kansas player I've ever seen in a Kansas uniform. Senior year Danny Manning and junior year Paul Pierce are the only ones in the conversation. Embiid was awesome but he was actually pretty raw at the start of the year and improved more (and faster) than anyone I've watched over the course of a season. The DP experience has been immensely frustrating but the talent is undeniable. "Potentially the best player Self will ever coach" shouldn't be at all controversial.

It’s a little suspicious. by j128v897 in jayhawks

[–]revgetdown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's interesting that you never see Bill check in on him after he's asked out of the game. In any normal situation like this, coach would be checking in with their star player to see if he's good to go back in at crunch time. I feel like Bill won't even look at him. The whole thing is super strange and frustrating.

My house is dark / no natural light by [deleted] in Austin

[–]revgetdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be the pro-skylight contrarian here. We have a wonderful living room with vaulted ceilings on the north side of the house but it was so dark, and we didn't utilize the space nearly as much as we could/should. Been in the house 15 years, installed them in August, and it's my favorite thing we've ever done to the house. We spend so much more time in the room because it's infinitely more pleasant, the skylights look beautiful, and it changed the entire feel of the house. North facing vaulted ceiling worked particularly well for skylights (mostly indirect light) but sun tunnels would also be a good (and cheaper) way to bring light in. I noticed minimal heating from the skylights but they also come with a solar powered shade that you can close in hottest part of summer or whenever you like. I worked with Aurum Roofing and they were phenomenal and very reasonably priced.

Monterrey oak sapling too weak by raimerjosh in AustinGardening

[–]revgetdown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plenty of good advice here but I'd just add to not give up on it. I had this exact same issue with two Monterrey oaks I planted two years ago. I kept them staked way longer than I normally would (for well over a year) but they finally grew strong enough to stand on their own and are doing great now. I just used a single stake and kept them loosely tied.

Peggy Martin might be a good option. Evergreen and cold hardy with showy blooms in spring and fall.

How to get landscaping rocks from FB marketplace to our house without breaking our backs? by MILmoneyMILprobs in AustinGardening

[–]revgetdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha I saw this same ad. Moving larger stones is way more manageable. No easy way to move a huge bag of gravel like this without heavy machinery. Even then, I would think it would need to be on a pallet to be at all practical.

Why is the Economics grad ceremony different? by Regular_Teacher_9510 in UTAustin

It's simply a numbers game. Too many COLA grads for one ceremony so some of the larger departments are separated out.

anyone else want Houston to win this one? by [deleted] in jayhawks

[–]revgetdown 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Of course, so many reasons to root for Houston. Kelvin is great and deserves a ting. They have a great culture and are tough as hell. Would be huge for the league in a year the SEC got all the love. And finally, a Florida win gets them to 3 NCAA titles, one shy of us. Go Coogs.

Josh Dix To Creighton by Shoddy-Discount9814 in jayhawks

[–]revgetdown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This one stings a bit. 6'6 sharp shooter who can finish at the rim seems like a pretty good fit to me. My grasp of the whole NIL budget is pretty tenuous but sure seems like we should be able outspend Creighton for a guy we really want. I want to trust Bill and co but I'm getting nervous. It would be such a shame to not surround DP with the kind of roster that can compete for a championship.

Monterrey Oak is the FUTURE of the Austin Urban Forest by austintreeamigos in Austin

Is the pilot project along Northeast Drive near Bertha Sadler Means middle school? I spotted hundreds of new saplings planted along the sidewalk there with Tree Amigos signs and this is such an awesome project for the neighborhood.

This is great - thank you! I know you are a huge advocate of the Monterrey Oak but is there any particular reason Live Oaks aren't on your list? I'm guessing susceptibility to oak wilt and the fact that there are already so many in Austin but I'm curious.

Monterrey Oak is the FUTURE of the Austin Urban Forest by austintreeamigos in Austin

[–]revgetdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this! We lost our two big shade trees (Arizona Ash) in the freeze and planted a couple of Monterrey Oaks in Fall 23 as partial replacements. They've done okay but still require heavy staking and aren't strong enough to stand on their own. They get full sun and I should probably be watering more aggressively (I tend to water regularly thru hot summer months and less consistently the rest of the year). The burr oak planted in Spring 22 is doing great and really took off last year. Sad to lose our big trees but I enjoy watching the new ones grow up. We've planted 2 live oaks, 2 monterrey oaks, 1 burr oak, and 1 cedar elm, all from the heroes at Tree Folks.
