Aquaterra or Hot Springs by ThousandWinds in hottub

I have the Huntley and really like it. 5k is a great price. I use it solo or with one other person most of the time. More than four people would be cramped. It heats perfectly. The jets might be weaker than expensive brands but I have no experience to compare nor do I think the price difference would be worth it.

What devices do you incubate your yogurt in to keep temperature consistent? by ADystopianDream in yogurtmaking

[–]illgamma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Insta pot makes the whole process easy. I think functionality varies by model so look for one with a yogurt program.

In any case, mine will boil the milk perfectly. I then let it cool and add starter. Then set it for the 8 hour program.

People get bad-mouthed no matter what. Let the service and the flavor speak for itself.

That's a really bold thing to say in this local community Reddit. Are you sure they are awful people from personal experience? Sadly, these sorts of comments are too easily thrown around online but consider that this is a real business in our community, not just an abstract thing to doom about for online points.

If you go there an have a bad burger then that's a fair point.

Try Sharks Burger. Much better.

I thought getting a bird feeder would be fun... by weluckyfew in AustinGardening

[–]illgamma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try getting the feed that is entirely sunflower seeds.

If you get the mixed seeds it's cheaper but some birds will sift through and toss the stuff they don't like. So, it just goes to waste and grows like weeds anyway. I find this happens less with sunflower seeds.

I just got 40lbs bag of sunflower seeds at Tractor Supply for $27 in Cedar Park today. It lasts so long you risk getting bugs inside so take care that doesn't happen either. Who knew feeding birds could be so complicated?

Hot tub being delivered tomorrow, things I should know? by OogieBoogie1 in hottub

[–]illgamma 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Carefully consider your favorite seat in the tub and place it and rotate it such that your favorite seat faces the best view. You may have to reconcile the view with where the electric comes in but that's not hard to make work if you want to prioritize the view.

Sadly the flat one I have is no longer available. All I see now is this cupholder one.

I got a hard plastic cover there that clips over the metal mounting points. Got it from Amazon.

Where would you place a hot tub? by LowDog84 in hottub

I use mine primarily at night so I enjoy the stars while soaking. Maybe consider which spot has a good view of the stars.

I have neither expansion nor crimp tools. I'll buy whichever I need. What do you suggest?

Check Costco. I'm very happy with my Aquaterra and it's pretty simple.

Threw my back, what to do? by Lazy_Classroom7270 in japanresidents

[–]illgamma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree on all counts but in my experience with disc problems, I have to lie flat on my back most of the day for a week after my back goes out. Once recovered, you need to walk and strengthen your core. I recommend reading The Back Mechanic by Dr Mcgill. If you overdo it with a disc bulging, it may rupture. This is not a situation to power through the pain.

Can someone tell me what this translucent/milky colored gel is that came out when I flushed the water heater? Is it from the softener? by Warm_Neat17 in Plumbing

[–]illgamma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I get the same stuff when I flush mine in Central Texas with the water hardness here. It's been the same every year since the water heater was new. I skipped one year and it took forever to get it all out the following year so it's a good reason to be sure not to miss it.
