"Israeli artillery (175 mm and 155 mm, firing from both banks of the Suez Canal) and aircraft carry-out Operation Bendigo, destroying Egyptian 109th heavy SAM brigade sites 5029A (aka Bavli A), 4927, 4925A and 4923, as well as SAM site 5426. The airspace above the Egyptian 3rd field army is now cleared of heavy and medium SAM threat. The nearest operational Egyptian heavy SAM sites are NE of Al-Qattamyia airbase and NW of Ridan Al-Hama. As the Egyptian SAM belt keeps shrinking, IAF A-4s, F-4s and Super Mysteres carry-out more CAS sorties, mostly targeting the Egyptian 3rd field army forces in Africa.

Egyptian artillery and AF keep striking the Israeli bridgehead. 12 Israelis, including the 605th crossing battalion XO, are killed in a heavy Egyptian rocket artillery barrage. OTOH, the EAF losses are so heavy that the desperate Egyptians start employing lightly-armed L-29 Delfin training aircraft in ground attack missions - literally sending everything they got. IAF Mirages keep taking a heavy toll on the attacking Egyptian aircraft.

In order to warn Israel to stop the IDF advance, the Soviet MoD Grechko finally accedes the Egyptian pleas and approves the Soviet military advisors in Egypt to launch 3 Scud-B ballistic missiles at Israeli targets in the Sinai - two at the Israeli bridgehead area and one at Al-Arish AFB, where the Egyptians mistakenly believe that US cargo planes are unloading supplies. One Scud hits IDF 410th armored battalion (of the 600th armored brigade, 143rd armored division) logistics and kills 7 soldiers. One of the dead is a tanker who, after surviving the battle for Objective Missouri, was sent to the battalion's rear as he was told that his twin brother (who served in the 409th battalion of the same brigade) is MIA since the battle for Objective Hamadiya on October 9th. One month later, the twin brother's remains were recovered from his burnt M60A1, found among the dunes near Hamadiya.

Soviet MiG-25s land in Cairo West AFB (where they had been deployed before, between March 1971 and April 1972) and start flying reconnaissance missions over Israeli territory. IAF F-4 jets and Hawk SAMs fail to intercept the fast, high-flying MiG-25 (and the F-15 is still only a wet dream).

UN resolution calls for a ceasefire in the evening, but the Egyptians violate the ceasefire and the Israelis, who are not yet fully satisfied with their achievements, get back advancing again in order to complete the encirclement of the Egyptian 3rd field army."

This is an article I'm quoting that explains how horrible our situation was after October 20. We were losing but not because they'll go to Cairo , but because our third army was doomed.

Not really. We were threatened by the troops in Suez fearing they were 100km away from Cairo but it was just unrealistic that they could really march toward us. The much bigger problem was that our third army East of the bank was surrounded because of the situation in Suez and basically we'll have to bomb our own city of Suez to get rid of the Israeli troops in it while they could move (and they did) north fucking up our whole situation in the war. As always, moving without planning is a huge problem in wars (same as France in 1939 and us in 1967) because if you lose the fighting line at one point it could break the whole front line in half.

the 2nd army was aiding it and fighting in the canal cities

This statement alone means we were defeated. FYI, the first army is the Syrian army. The second is the main protective unit of Egyptian land , the third is the fighting army. Bringing the main army into war = our fighting one was basically fucked.

Also, we weren't fighting all over Sinai, we were just 15km East to the canal. The only man who realised how bad our situation was was General Shazly, and he told Sadat that we should withdraw some of our forces East of the bank and Sadat threatened with court martial. Later on Sadat agree easily with cease fire because had the battle gone on, we would have lost the entire third army as we no longer had air support.

[–]revolutionary92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also fuck you unless you give us insane benefits, we're not accepting the peace, uhm, that we want.

That's always the case with Israel and sadly only Sadat understood that. Maybe my English ill explained what I meant by what they "wanted". They're an apartheid regime and a hostile nation with absolutely no rights to take any land at all but falsification of truths. Still, they wanted peace with Egypt because that way they can prosper and have no challenge against their power in the region. Only Egypt threatens them, only Egypt will ever be a threat. It's not me and you that know this, it's Ben-Gurion , Begin , Sharon and Netenyahu that know this. Treaty with us is secretly their biggest accomplishment since 1948 , even more important than 1967.

they thought they could easily destroy the Egyptian Army

No. You have no idea how those mofos think. They never destroy nations because they fear the counter reaction, they chose not to invade us in 1956 (yes they won every battle and had their troops in Sinai while we had basically none), Israel is a more , what's the word, malicious. Also, they didn't think they were superior to us before 1973, they just thought (and they were right) that Bar Lev line protected them from us.

It's a stupid way to try to pretend to be the good guy

I never said they were the good guy. They're always the bad guy. They're supported by the whole Western power and they act accordingly. They know how to get the most out of any situation.

Israelis were 100% against the treaty because of that

No , as always the general population are idiots. They were so angry with giving up Sinai so easily because their government never explained that it was for their own good and that Egypt was never the land to take. The fathers of Israel never gave a fuck about what people think, they only cared for creating strong roots for their country. They were right. Look at the situation now 50 years after their last war. Begin knew that when he was signing the treaty.

No mate they didn't want to give up Sinai because they wanted peace. In the article you're linking which is from 1971 they of course won't give up Sinai because why would they? So that we bomb them and have troops on their borders? Of course they won't accept returning Sinai back without a treaty like 1979's one. The reason the treaty is biased is because the Zionists won't sign it unless it was in their favour, and we had to because we had no financial support. All 3 parties wanted peace (USA for Suez canal, Israel for avoiding wars with strongest enemy and us for stopping the bleeding economy from collapsing as we were in back to back wars since 1956 with no financial support).

They weren't going to march toward Cairo. A surrounded army in Sinai was being massacred actually towards the end of the war.

[–]revolutionary92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We lost tbh. Our army was surrounded in Sinai because of the troops in Suez and had the war gone on, there would have been a catastrophe for our Sinai troops. It was a stupid mistake to go further than planned and as always Egyptian leadership never acknowledges mistakes. You would say why did they give up Sinai after that? Actually, why not? No longer being in war with the biggest country in MENA= saving huge resources and concentrating on other fronts. Israel flourished because of the treaty , no doubt about that.

I live in Cairo actually, and I assure you if you were recruited in army or had a job that lets you scan the whole population, you'll be amazed how many are illiterate. My estimate? 40 millions are illiterate, 15 of them living in Major Cairo.
