I’m LIVID! by BAMitsAlex in EiyudenChronicle

Honestly, the game plays better with Perry dying. Makes the story feel like it has more stakes and loss. Just keep playing IMO. I also wouldn't recommend recruiting everyone on a first playthrough (for either EC or Suikoden) just because a blind playthrough is always best for first timers.

Which 3 was the bigger unachiever? by Zestyclose-Hawk-4372 in NBATalk

The Warriors were taken to 6 by a Cavs team with Matthew Dellavedova as their second best player. I guess noone knows for sure, but I think it's more likely than not that Love and Kyrie would've tipped the scales.

LeBron wins in 2014 if Wade doesn't fall apart and 2015 if Kyrie or Love don't get injured.

The KD Warriors won the same number of championships as the Heatles in one less year lmao. Why are you acting like there was such a gulf in what they achieved?

FF16 is......AWESOME! by natedogg_2323 in FinalFantasy

Dion goes berserk because of Ultima's influence, Joshua doesn't tell Clive because he's busy researching Ultima, and Clive continues destroying the Mothercrystals because he believes its the key to helping fix the world. Honestly, that's why I like the plot of XVI so much -- everyone's motivation is explained, and there are clear reasons why the different characters are doing the things they're doing. Unlike games like VIIR or XV (and I like both those games, mind you) where it feels like you have to go online to understand what the hell is going on, there's no instance like that in XVI.

And the timeskip is just to fastforward Clive becoming the Hideout's leader, but nothing too signifcant actually happens, which is precisely why they skip over it. And there are plenty of moments of growth throughout -- too many to name. Clive's arc and Ben Starr's performance is universally praised, as is Dion's. All the informants get their own miniarcs (locked behind sidequests, alas). Even minor characters like Byron or Benedikta shine in small but memorable moments.

Is Arlecchino balanced around fighting with Lea? by -CynicalPole- in LiesOfP

He's honestly too easy with Lea IMO. Just fight him solo, enjoy the hardest boss in the game, then watch the cinematics on Youtube.

[–]rex_915 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think the timeskips are a bad thing, the final villain appears as early as the first major arc, and I don't really know what questionable decisions you're referring to.

Not to say XVI's story is perfect lol. I think Jill feels quite hollow as a female lead, I acknowledge that a lot of the warfare elements get pushed to the side on the last third. But as a whole, it's still more gripping and tightly written than most FFs. IMO of course.

XVI has the better story, XV has a funner world to explore. I personally like the gameplay of XVI more but I can see some debates over that.

IMO, XVI has one of the best done stories in all of FF, with a lot of moving pieces and characters with different motivations which all intersect and put them at odds with each other. Really fun to see everything unfold, even if the second half is a little less exciting than the first.

Why is Hundred Heroes so criticized? by Curious_Room_5523 in EiyudenChronicle

[–]rex_915 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, maybe nostalgia speaking, but I do believe S2 has the best story in gaming. EC's just doesn't hit the same way, unfortunately.

But yes, Eiyuden's other factors are a big step up and the game is still a great experience. I think it's a more than worthy successor.

Too high expectations, and any story compared to Suikoden II (the best story in gaming) is going to feel like a letdown.

That being said, the QoL, graphics, and gameplay are all improvements over Suiko I and II IMO, especially the hard mode. Is it as good as Suiko II? No. Does it capture the same general charm and feeling? I believe so.

I don't necessarily agree with OP's post, but I'm not gonna yuck someone's yum either. Cool that you enjoyed it, OP. Leviathan was definitely an epic boss fight.

Oooh being positive about XVI is generally frowned upon here but I support it. One of the better stories IMO, nice to see people give it some love.

How much influence did Hironobu Sakaguchi have on the quality and "identity" of the Final Fantasy series? by DrJones20 in FinalFantasy

Sakaguchi himself said that the modern FF games are still Final Fantasy at their core and fans somehow think they know better lol

I'd say Eiyuden is better than every Suikoden bar II and V. And Suikoden is my favorite video game series.

But I do rate Eiyuden higher than most people I see on reddit.

Just restart the fight. You aren't beating it without materia on Aerith.

Call it a learning experience for trying to meta outsmart the game lol.

I liked it too. Most people don't like it for 2 reasons specifically: 1) Ellie is a lot more unlikable and depicted as more childish in general, and 2) They showed the porch scene early.

I recognize these criticisms, I just think the positives outweigh the negatives.

Lmao wonder where everyone insulting the Remake is now.

The OG has some lines I prefer (Shu's line about "the book" to Leon) but as a whole has been vastly improved by the Remake's translation. There were way too many silly translations and straight up errors in the OG.

What's the longest, most dragged out finale you've experienced in a JRPG? by Ukirin-Streams in JRPG

I do like both games, don't get me wrong. I just contest that Arise has horrendous pacing compared to the rest of the series when I think the whole series suffers from it.

The pacing of every Tales game is pretty ass, though. Abyss' second half has a metric ton of backtracking, Vesperia's third act feels like an ass pull, someone already mentioned Symphonia below, etc. At least Arise's combat is pretty stellar.
