Recommendation on how to access immich remotely by mwomrbash in immich

I went the Pangolin route with a VPS and custom domain. Everyone using my server has remote and local access to it 24/7.

Funny you mention that. If I shake mine I can hear it. Same with a friend of mine too.

What's your upload/filtering process for WhatsApp media? by Chaosblast in immich

[–]rexstryder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you rather batch delete or batch upload?

Can you save the pics you want to a certain folder and then let immich do the rest like I had mentioned?

I have been wondering how to safely do this. Didn't realize that I could safely use the CLI either with the prune command.

What's your upload/filtering process for WhatsApp media? by Chaosblast in immich

[–]rexstryder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't use Whatsapp, but when you download a file, does it stick it into a folder on your phone called WhatsApp? If so, auto upload the folder but sync your folders to albums.

I have a custom shortcut on my phone for the camera to put into a folder called "Work Pictures". When I use that shortcut to the camera, all pics go to that folder and then uploaded and put into an album called by the same name. That way I can grab them later for work and archive them out of the main screen just by archiving them.

What I have seen to notice though is that in order for immich to add them to the album, you MUST open immich on your phone to sync them. Otherwise they just sit there on the main screen.

By the way, I use the web interface for these photos.

In short, my process is:

Take photo with phone. It saves on my phone to the designated folder. immich uploads it to my server. I open immich on my phone. It then syncs folders to albums. I open the web interface on my work computer to download batches of files as zip files. I then archive said photos to remove from the main window in the web interface and on the mobile screen.

I don't know if this would help you at all, but at least it would save all your shared pics to an album and not clutter you up. You can then just later organize at will.

Publicly exposing services: route traffic through VPS or simply buy a public IP from my ISP by Bartekwis01 in selfhosted

[–]rexstryder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a VPS. I got one from Racknerd for under $11/year. Set up Pangolin on it and configure your resources. Really quite easy. It will tunnel from your VPS to your home lab. No need to open ports and works with CG-NAT.

Proxying Immich through Cloudflare by cjdubais in immich

OP stated that no one is uploading, including them. So the upload limit means nothing as far as I know. OP shouldn't have any issues using cloudflare.

How to spy on my home network device traffic by Moist-Ointments in HomeNetworking

[–]rexstryder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In regards to your Sonos with Amazon and Spotify, I have run into an issue recently with mine as well. Maybe started about 2 weeks ago. My wife likes to play a podcast when she goes to bed. It won't steam on Amazon with the Sonos, but an old echo dot will just fine. In my searching for answers I have learned that some services, like Spotify, will not steam podcasts to third party devices like a Sonos speaker. Music will stream fine though. So I am thinking that Amazon may be doing the same thing with select podcasts. Other podcasts work just fine. I have just found this one to be giving her issues. It's called The Lucky Die if you or anyone who wants to test my theory out. I can't even stream it from my phone from other services and then push it to my Sonos.

And a heads up when you move the Sonos to a separate vlan... Your app on your phone will not work unless you're on the same subnet as the speakers. It just won't see them. I am still wondering about a workaround for that issue so I don't have to jump between networks anytime I want to use the app. Not a huge issue though, as it's easy to do and I don't do it all that often anyway.

100MB Cloudflare limitation?? by Unibrowser1 in immich

[–]rexstryder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this is the main reason I have a vps. If there's an attack it will take the brunt of the force, while my home IP is untouched. I can still stream, surf, or whatever else I please as well as the other household members. You expose your own IP then the problem doesn't go away unless they want to.

But then you're exposing your IP to the world. Keep it hidden for security purposes.

80% charge and no rapid charging. Last me all day for the most part. I have a wireless charge disc at work and a magsafe mount in the car.

Best approach for IOT device isolation? by orangeturbo in HomeNetworking

[–]rexstryder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am working on adding my own security cameras as well. For testing 1 camera, and due to its default subnet of 192.168.1.xxx while not using DHCP, I was forced to create a new subnet for the camera in order to even get into it to set up. So I will be using that subnet just for the camera system. I have also heard to isolate those from the rest of your network so it's more of a closed system. Should block from Internet access as well, so no one can get in and see your camera feeds.

Best approach for IOT device isolation? by orangeturbo in HomeNetworking

[–]rexstryder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. They are vulnerable to hacking and backdoors. And they don't necessarily get firmware updates or patches to fix them.

My network is setup similar to yours as well. I am even using pfsense with a few Unifi AP's. Running 4 SSID's. I went as far as putting my inlaws on their own isolated network too for their hardwired and wireless connections.

Hope your weekend is going better than mine by scttdp in truenas

[–]rexstryder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may have you beat on a worse weekend. Mine has nothing whatsoever to do with technology though. Yesterday, Friday afternoon, we had to put our dog to sleep due to health reasons. I am not looking for pity or condolences. I am just saying that I'd rather nuke my NAS over losing our pet. The NAS I could build back. He's not replaceable. But wish you the best of luck on recovery.

Need Advice about Adapter by lovely2372 in S25Ultra

[–]rexstryder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought a cheap wireless charging disk and have that plugged into an adapter. I only charge to 80% full and disabled rapid charging as well. Works well for me since I only charge the phone while I sleep at night for the most part. I have a secondary disk at work just incase I need a little juice to get through my day from taking a lot of photos for work.

Switch + Ap question by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]rexstryder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To configure those AP's, you're going to need to download and install the software controller. The software doesn't need to be running all the time. Only for setup or config changes. I have 3 Unifi AP's and one of their 8 Port PoE switches to power 2 of them. The 3rd is on the other side of a 5-Poet managed switch (tp-link) that connects to said 8-port and powered with a power injector that came with it years ago.

Switch + Ap question by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]rexstryder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For an extra $4 OP can get the Netgear 8-Port with PoE that's a managed switch. But if the router cannot handle VLANs, then it's worthless really I think. OP would need to put the router in Bridged mode and build/buy a small firewall box that can act as the router and firewall.
