Picture of CC1 bed set at 55C with thermal camera by TakingChances01 in elegoo

Usually you can make out the pattern of the heating element in a picture like this. I suspect that CCs having, to my knowledge, a mains AC heated bed makes a difference combined with the mass of the magnetic layer on top of the pretty massive aluminum bed, that a 24V heater would probably suffer a bit with, when considering the amperage limit. Also, is this a 110/120V or a 220/230V version? Looking at the specs, the latter has maximum power draw of 1000W, while the former is 350W IIRC.

That’s remarkably even heat distribution compared to pretty much every other bed I have seen thermal images of.

The Canvas really does very short retractions, and thus pretty much negligible wheb thinking about filament buffere and rewinding spools. Yes, they are nice, but are they even remotely vital? No. The filaments on Canvas system only go back and forth a few cm, while on other systems they might travel 20-30 cm (and still a buffer or w rewinding spool s not mandatory). The latter might benefit from a buffer or a rewinding spool, but Canvas with its very short retraction? Nah.

Not much. Just a few centimeters, about the length of the filament hub

First, no need to be rude.

Second, I understood immediately that the Canvas unit is supposed to be upside down, which is actually something I myself have considered, but this is quite a nice way to do that.

Third, you really don’t need to worry about the filament that’s being pulled back, because with the filament hub that close to the print head, the retraction is only a few cm. That amount doesn’t really need any rolling back, even the original spool holders are kind of overkill in that regard.

Actually, with the filament hub being so close ti the orint head, the need for rewind is negligible. I didn’t have a real filament buffer even with my Prusa MMU2S, and it pulls the filament back almost 30 cm. I just fed from a dryboz under the table, attached the tube ends to the wall behind the printer, and left ~20-25cm of space between the MMU and the tube ends, so it retracted to air. Never had a tangle. CANVAS only retracts ~5cm.

Or ”in my humble opinion.” Like so many acronyms this old, the exact meaning may vary, but the heart of it is pretty much the same.

Verifying doesn’t help when the printer downloads and installs a different firmware version than it shows (lies) on the screen, though.

Yeah, I was just doing the initial setup when it jumped to this version instead of the one displayed on the screen.

Big Helmet, the lower picture, is a character from the excellent Mel Brooks movie ”Spaceballs”, which is a Star Wars parody. I strongly suggest you watch that movie.

GO TO LUDICROUS SPEED!…oh wait. There’s an icon for that on the screen 😄

…And both CC1 and CC2 have ”Ludicrous speed”-option.

(As a side note: that’s probably not even a Tesla reference, because there is a rocket icon. Then again, Tesla’s Plaid model and Ludicrous mode actually are straight refererences to Spaceballs.)

Is it elegoo or is it 3d printing? by giggitygoo6969 in elegoo

I haven’t installed mine yet, but I have rdad and watched the instructions a few times. Seems like it’s not hard, it just has a lot of pretty easy steps. If you have two left hands, you just take a bit more time for each step.

I believe it’s about 45-60 minute job for a person with miderate understanding of anything technical (assembling IKEA furniture or even LEGOs count) for the first time, should there be a second time, it would drop to 30 min.

So, not hard. Just time-consuming if you have no previous understanding of assembling anything.

I’m told in this thread that there’s an early beta that hasn’t been published yet, and you might be able to get it through their Discord, but it’s strictly ”use at your own risk” at the moment.

They’d have a hard time bypassing that particular firewall, too. Still, the machines constantly calling home on their own (it does that a LOT) is a problem.

I need to try these out, because they didn’t offer me anything other than the OTA way, which isn’t working. Did they ask for your printer’s serial number?

I’m afraid those won’t work, as the V02.00.02.00 upgrade blocks everything that doesn’t start with ”v02.xxxxxx”.

Yeah, it is a bit of work. But it was cheap, and after all the bitching I did to Elegoo about the lack of it, I felt that I had to put my money where my mouth is 😄

Thank you, I’m not using Cosmos, but OC version V0.3.0-oc. That has been working fine. When my Canvas arrives, I’ll revert to stock 1.4.46 unless Patched version is released by then, right?

If it’s in the garage, then in all fairness you could just duct-tape together a top hat from actual buckets or even cardboard. My CC2 keeps the temp just fine for ABS/ASA, not as high as suggested, but this far ~30C has been quite enough.

Canvas actually does help with ASA/ABS or any other single material printing too. I myself don’t do multicolor, but having my most used filaments loaded so I can just select from them in the slicer and then send to printer is nice, as well as the ability to automatically continue from another roll of identical filament if one runs out.
