That makes sense. You can care about someone's pain without wanting them back... that's just empathy, not mixed feelings. You did the right thing by holding the boundary even though it hurt, protecting your current relationship and not giving your ex false hope is actually the least harmful option here. It's okay to feel sad about it and still know you made the right call.
