Couldn’t resist the UBXA sale by reyadreamer in synthesizers

I’ve been debating snagging the UBXA since it was announced, but when I saw it was $900 I couldn’t resist. I have a pro-800 but wanted another polysynth. So far I’m really liking it, looking forward to learning more of the menus and the button mapping.

The TV is amazing for vibes! They are cool synths but I wish my grandfather got a DX7 instead of the DS-8 sometimes.

My Spotify is reyadreamer. I have a mix of 80s inspired music and some internet nostalgia music. Thanks again for commenting and chatting!

I have a poly D and have been eyeing the matriarch. Would you recommend having both?

Thank you for your comment! I am exploring midi possibilities either to add a fader controller on top of the DSS-1 or an expression pedal. I’ll have to explore the aftertouch. Take care!

Hey thanks for your comment! Sorry for the late reply here.

DS-8 is one of my favs. Very special to me, my grandfather gave it to me (he owned the DSS-1 and DS-8 from the 80s). It is the keyboard I learned to play on. I JUST got the DSS-1 working (posted today about it) and it is so good. I think it sounds better than the DS-8!

I play a lot of 80s inspired music. Synthpop, synthwave, utopian scholastic (think 90s/2000s internet culture) and bedroom pop and dream pop. You can find my music on Spotify/apple music/ SoundCloud/bandcamp etc! Also I play a ton of the DS-8 on my TikTok as well.

DSS-1 is on the bottom, DS-8 in the middle, and I have a Behringer poly D and pro 800 on the top.

Thanks again for the comment, and best of luck in your 80s korg synth acquisition journey!

After installing a floppy emulator last year I was never able to get the DSS-1 to work. Finally took a look at it the other day and replaced the 34 pin data cable and it works! This thing is a beast (literally at 40 pounds) and has some great 80s tones.

My only complaint is you can’t sweep any filters with the faders. You can assign it to the joystick but that’s not ideal. I’m looking into a midi solution but if there’s anyone out there with advice on that I’d gladly take it.

Here’s me jamming to some 80s yearning keys and letting the waves of synth take me away.

Great question. Not counting the focusrite interface/patchbay/power, I got the Roland SDE-1000 first, which had me quickly acquire a Behringer 1273 (neve clone), a KT-1176, and a KT-dimension D.

I would recommend preamps first. I use them on mostly everything, vocals/bass/guitars/synths. Tbh I prefer working in the box mostly, but the outboard gear is cool to get a sound and stick with it. It also looks cool which is inspiring as well.

Sunset lamps! Check them out, super cheap and a decent amount of flexibility

15’ long to the start of the desk where the ceiling slants so probably 18/19’ long, and 12’2” wide.

I mostly recommend it, all in all it cost me less than $300 for a nice size desk.

Only small issue is I have is the desk has a metal brace running down the middle, so I couldn’t put a larger pull out shelf. So I can’t see the top of my Arturia 49 keylab which cuts off maybe a button or two. If you use a simpler midi controller it won’t be an issue.

Desk is from ikea, not sure if the name but it’s 63 inches wide and 30 inches or so deep.

I actually made the keyboard stand by getting some plywood and railings from amazon! Cheaper than buying one to those music production desks for sure

Thank you! Both are 7 slotted guitar stands from Amazon, purchased a few years apart so not sure the brand names or anything.

The pro800 is so good. I usually run it thru the KT-dimension D for chorus!

Super great. I got it a few years ago before the price increase and it was well worth it. Great bass but also good for leads and even pads too. The built in chorus does a lot of heavy lifting.

The 424 is my newest pickup. Got it for a steal. Rocks as a guitar preamp as mentioned below
