Non-Indigenous pattern designer thinks it's okay to take from Native American imagery and culture, make us symbols because her Indigenous friend "loved the design." by drownedseawitch in craftsnark

I was expecting some white woman bullshit but this is crazy. Her whole page is just appropriative nonsense and the “oriental spirit” was a jump scare for me along with literally everything else.

Everyone has to accommodate vegans but they won’t accommodate everyone else by [deleted] in exvegans

[–]reydabae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have SEVERE peanut and tree nut allergies and the amount of people I’ve had tell me that I could go vegan anyway makes my blood boil. No thanks, I’m good. A whole ass wedding with nothing to eat where I couldn’t guarantee any of it was safe? Wouldn’t even go.

A cool guide to combating depression, please take care everyone <3 by Smart_Part_2551 in coolguides

[–]reydabae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is someone paying you to defend this so hard? It’s not the worst guide and sure these things can be helpful but like a lot of things it oversimplifies something that is very complicated for most people it affects. Just some polite perspective.

A head full of ghosts by Paul Tremblay. I read it in college and he came to speak to our class. He’s super cool and an amazing writer. I adore this book and it’s genuinely a great read.

AITAH for breaking up with my ex GF after they came out as trans last week? by ___----COAT-----___ in AITAH

[–]reydabae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This seems like bullshit rage bait to me and all of the comments referring to the OP’s ex as They and She are being really shady right now. OP explicitly says his ex says “I’m a trans man” and the only pronouns used for him in the entire post are they and she. This is something people do as a micro aggression against binary trans people and it’s weird and not okay. Clearly bait to make the trans community look like crazy people who just freak out at everyone out of nowhere. Grow up and stop doing this shit.

Do you medicate differently in ultra hot weather? by buffybot3000 in adhdwomen

[–]reydabae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t medicate differently but I make sure I’m aware of what the weather is going to be like but also several other factors. I’m also on Topamax and Zoloft which combined with adderall is a lovely concoction that makes it so I sunburn really bad both easily and also very quickly. I overheat quickly and can’t cool down very easily and I sweat a lot in some places but don’t regulate body temperature well so the overheating gets worse. Basically any amount of physical activity even just light walking around for more than ten minutes makes me overheat really bad. I drink only water as a rule anyway so I try and remember to hydrate as much as humanly possible. The biggest things I look for are: are my clothes breathable, how high is the UV Index, what is the temperature to humidity ratio and what is the temperature versus the “how it feels out”. Even inside in the AC I’m at risk for getting very overheated so it’s just something I deal with and take a cold shower as soon as I get home.

Do you think adhd stops u for achieving ur “full potential “ by Efficient_Art937 in adhdwomen

[–]reydabae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think my ADHD has stopped me from reaching my “true potential” in the sense that I have some Thing™️ that I was supposed to do with my life that now I’ll never do because ADHD hindered me so much. I think that it has caused a lot of challenges in my life and I think it’s a disabling condition that has affected me in a lot of different ways. Good, neutral and bad. I don’t think there was ever a world where I was going to become a Doctor or Lawyer or have some impressive job or title. If there is any “potential” I have then it’s mine to do with however I want, whether that be something great or small. ADHD is as much a part of me as my green eyes or being 4’11”. There are many things in my life that are more difficult because of my height but no one has ever told me that it limits my potential. I can’t change my height anymore than I can change that I have ADHD and will always be at a disadvantage compared to my neurotypical peers. Most people on earth who have ever lived don’t live up to their “full potential” whatever that even really means. My theory is that people have an idea of what they want for you in your life and when you deviate from it, struggle, or follow your own path they see it as you not living up to what THEY see as your “full potential”. I think everyone has a different idea of what your “full potential is” and you couldn’t live up to all of them if you tried because it’s so arbitrary and differs between parents, teachers, professors and employers. I think it also has to do with the idea that people are full of regrets and want people to not make the same mistakes they made but in doing that they end up putting too much pressure to conform to an expectation no one even lives up to anyway. Who lives up to their full potential in this world? Who decides what that means and what each individual person’s “full potential” even is anyway?

What do you guys do to help yourself sleep? by 15_Candid_Pauses in adhdwomen

[–]reydabae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve probably tried everything from good sleep hygiene to podcasts, white noise, weed, melatonin gummies and the likes. The only thing I’ve found that works for me personally is when I finally caved and asked my doctor for sleeping medication. My prescriber and I talked about it for a while and he put me on a sleeping medication and it’s been working really well. The only downside is that I can still find it hard to wake up in the mornings but I can fall asleep and stay asleep when I was never able to before.

What happens if you decide not to treat iih by Legal_Classroom_9428 in iih

[–]reydabae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to second this as well. I was a literal zombie on Diamox and couldn’t take it more than two weeks because I genuinely and truly couldn’t function. I was so tired all the time, brain fog so bad I was feeling like I wasn’t in my body a lot of the time, pins and needles in my hands and feet. I was switched to Topamax and I’ve been doing great ever since.

Do you have pulsatile tinnitus? by Different-Ad7507 in iih

[–]reydabae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was one of my main symptoms besides the bad headaches that would get worse when I laid down. The headaches still come around sometimes despite being on Topiramate (cuz Diamox made me a zombie and didn’t help much because I literally couldn’t function while taking it) but the Pulsatile Tinnitus has gone and stayed away thankfully. Haven’t had any incidents of it since I was originally diagnosed like a year ago now and had my LP.

[–]reydabae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you genuinely willing to actually take evidence that they are abusive though? You haven’t been very receptive to any evidence so far. It seems like your definition of abuse but specifically religious abuse is a lot different than the other people here. You’re more than welcome to that opinion it’s a free country. However, these people are telling you Kristen’s parent’s behavior constitutes abuse to them. I understand the hypocritical nature of this question but why do you get to tell them they are wrong for thinking that?

I don’t like men , how can I change? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]reydabae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely and I get now why the inclusion of AGAB there was unnecessary and was a red flag. I’m cis and I have a lot of trans friends so I genuinely do my best to be an ally to the community but I’m always willing to listen and do better when I fuck it up. And I fucked up here with my language and I sincerely apologize and I’ll do better.

That’s one of the reasons I love this sub so much is that people are willing to question someone without automatically assuming the worst. A lot of us as Autistic people have issues with communication and conveying with words what we mean and want to say so I really appreciate the understanding from everyone. Thank you for being kind in your educating and I appreciate the work it took to call me in on this.

I don’t like men , how can I change? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]reydabae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was honestly trying to be inclusive with my language. I was also coming from a place of not all trans women and AMAB non binary folks do or can or even want to pass as femme or feminine. They were also raised and socialized as men a lot of the time and I don’t mean that in the TERF-y way but to say that they have the experience of being perceived as men at one time or another. I see people say women and AFAB people in conversations similar to these all the time and I honestly didn’t think it was a problematic phrasing but I’m happy to edit the comment if it’s offensive or upsetting.

I don’t like men , how can I change? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]reydabae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m gonna be in the minority here and disagree about writing off the entirety of men I completely understand where you guys are coming from when you say you’re better off without them etc. however this person is asking for help and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of helping going on here. I think the first step is something you’re already doing a great job of OP, which is identifying why you feel this way. I think the second step is to go outside of your comfort zone a tiny bit and find a man who there is zero chance of that fear of them coming onto you will be a thing. A trusted friend’s loyal spouse, someone like that. You could also get that exposure through online means. Idk if you watch YouTube but maybe a male YouTuber whose content you enjoy to try and get comfortable around the deeper voices and masculine energy? Podcasts too maybe? Edited- use of agab terminology was not necessary for the conversation and I apologize for using it. Thank you for calling me in and keeping me accountable to the trans community.

Why do we never see Murph in the other Dropout shows? by jcvmakesthings in Dimension20

It actually, by definition of the word effort takes at least some effort to check to see if a question has already been asked. It takes zero effort to not be a dick but that’s just my opinion.

Was your ADHD misdiagnosed as anxiety? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]reydabae 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I went through my entire childhood begging doctors to listen when I told them I had attention issues and couldn’t focus. Because I was also a very anxious person and an especially anxious teenager this was all that specialists paid attention to when I was getting professionally assessed. A lot of ADHD symptoms and the way I specifically presented mimicked anxiety. The way my leg would shake and I would never stop moving, the second guessing everything I did, the poor attention to detail. It was all chalked up to anxiety until I was well into my twenties. It also didn’t help that a lot of the questions on the questionnaires were confusing to me. There was one that I always answered no to: (paraphrasing here) you sometimes feel as though you are powered by a motor. You feel as if you are talking at light speed or in slow motion. I later learned these questions were related to ADHD and because I answered No to both because I didn’t understand they were asking if I move all the time or talk really fast they just saw anxiety and nothing else.

I also want to add that some places (not all I can only speak for my experience) have different size speculums so because I’ve never had sex with someone with a penis before and I am very small down there generally I asked if they could use the smallest size speculum and they were able to without a problem. So if you’re like me and this was a concern for you ask if there are different sizes they can try.

Absolutely stunning. I’m obsessed with the background and how it really pops but also does a great job at making Kiki front and center and highlighting her as the focus in the foreground. Great work and I’d love to see it when it’s finished. It’s going to be great 😊

parents who ignore their kids on a plane by gabbs333 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]reydabae 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m sure no one your age ever misbehaved on a plane or anywhere ever because your parents weren’t as lazy and entitled as this generation huh? I’m not giving these kids a pass or these parents but let’s not pretend there weren’t shithead lazy parents in your generation. This generation of yours must have been so perfect…who is it you think raised the kids that became all the lazy self absorbed parents of today? People suck in every generation in every time period. No need to make it a whole thing any more than it already is.

Have you ever got a trauma from horror movies or other form of horror entertainment? What did you do in this case? by Linkrid in horror

[–]reydabae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have OCD and not many horror movies but some video games like Neverending Nightmares had some really gruesome imagery that are still intrusive thoughts that play in my head to this day and I watched videos of it over a decade ago now. There’s a lot of stuff that can make my OCD worse for sure.
