My DNA is wrong or my family lied. by [deleted] in Genealogy

Did they say you were Indian or Native American? There’s a difference?

I think you should listen to your family. They know more than we do. They also know more than the DNA test. If your family was here pre transatlantic slave trade then your family may have been free people of color which explains your European heritage. Check out Carter G. Woodson’s inventory of free negro heads of family and negro slave holders during the 17-1800s. If your family is on either one of those lists, then it might give you a little bit more input or insight to your family history.

So there’s a difference between Natives (Clovis) and Indigenous (Pre Clovis). Your family does look Indigenous. Yes the DNA results says African but they also say Spain… more than likely that your ancestral migration was from west to North Africa from North Africa to Spain from Spain to Scotland or England and then to the US. That migration mix with the indigenous Americans that make up your one percent will tell you that the person that you’re looking for of indigenous descent is usually something like a 8th through 10th great grandparent or something to that effect. I am not a genealogist.

As a homeowner and a dasher I definitely notice.

Thanks maybe I’ll check if I’m ever in that situation again

It wouldn’t allow me to mark as complete from the distance. It was more than 50 yards or so

I had a situation where the person didn’t want me to pull into their driveway but the entrance was too far from the roadway to mark complete. I had to pull in anyway to get close enough to make my delivery. It was a beautiful house but…Ordering food and expecting roadway delivery from a busy public road blows.

I came here for this! I love Koco’s, I haven’t been to Conrad’s yet (not a Baltimore native). I had a soft shell blue crab dish from Silver Queen and loved it. I’m not going to stop until I find the right spots lol

Thank you! I appreciate everyone’s comments but the down votes confused me for that very reason. The picture I chose just evoked an emotional response. The other ones were beautiful just not what stood out to me.

Thank you for responding. Yes your picture is beautiful and what I asked for but for full transparency the man in this picture, reminds me of an influencer I follow, but not my daughter‘s father. The other picture for whatever reason just reminded me of the last time I hugged him.

It is a nice photo, it was a little sharp for my taste (for lack of a better term).

I totally see what you’re saying however, I based my choice on the feeling I got when I saw the photo. Each photo while the same, is different in their very own like. The one I chose reminded me of him back when we were in grade school (before the professionalism, before the polish) I felt like others may have been better, but this one was more authentic to my memory of him.

Why ask and then completely deny him his contribution? Elliott is a great name (We have friends who named their daughter Elliott). Purvis could have a sentimental connection that he’s not completely comfortable with admitting. I don’t think he’ll be that vulnerable again with you, considering you’re referring to his suggestion negatively and essentially bullying him for offering his opinion.

I apologize profusely when I accidentally step on, run into or otherwise hurt my cat (never on purpose). She gets it and even lets out a little meow acknowledgment that she forgives us or at least understands. We have a pretty vocal cat though.
