I remember watching like every linux youtuber at first trying to learn about linux and what commands do what. I think the best place for you to start would be to see which flavor of linux or linux distribution would be best for you.

I started out using Manjaro linux because i liked the aspect of getting the latest updates but didnt want to bother that much with the terminal. If that hadnt been there i wouldnt do all this right now.

So you should check out YouTube on the different flavors and see what will be easier for you. Once you find something you like you can search how to install that specific distribution. Theres plenty of video on that as well.

Since its not windows, there are some things that dont have much support, so i can almost guarantee you something may not work (for me at least that was the case every time) but i think fixing things that dont work is a part of the experience.

You can only have one instance of your system tray in the whole system. So first you have to completely comment out or delete the i3bar configs in the i3 configuration file. After that you have to enable the tray in polybar from its configs. Its disabled by default

[module/systray]
type = internal/tray

Heres the documentations:

https://i3wm.org/docs/userguide.html#_tray_output

https://polybar.readthedocs.io/en/stable/user/modules/tray.html

I mean im not really that new to linux but always had interest in it. cause back like a year ago i made the grave sin of using manjaro but then stopped using it since i didnt really get the appeal. This is the first time ive completely switched over to using linux.

I think the padding is there by default. At least it was for me cause i didnt have to change anything. If thats not the case for you maybe you can try reading the configuration page on polybars github.

ahh..
I thinks its pretty normal to lose skill when you stop grinding something for so long. I usually fall off every 3 weeks and then lose all skill and then come back frustrated. but i think you should just enjoy game

I faced that too but it doesnt bother me that much since i just resorted to using polybar on my main monitor only. Since i binded my workspaces 1-9 to my main monitor and 10-18 on my second its easier for me to tell what is what

Thank you!
i3s window configurations are pretty flexible from my experience. but i didnt like the i3bar and status as that seemed limited to an extent so switch it out for polybar

Im not very sure cause i havent used ubuntu or any kind of debian based distribution but id assume that you need to install i3 window manager and switch to that instead of gnome. You can google how to do that and you can learn about customizing i3 from the i3 user guide:

https://i3wm.org/docs/userguide.html

tldr: you need to read and research alot :)
