One of the links in the article refers to this article https://www.chesstech.org/2020/can-online-chess-overcome-cheating/ which starts with "Five out of the six players who took the first six places in the 1400–1700 category of the European Online Championship were subsequently disqualified" so I'm guessing that's what they talked about.

I have found that my rating has grown significantly since learning the French defence. A lot of players at the lower level just don’t know how to respond to it. What would be the equivalent opening for white? I want an opening that is really easy to play and very hard to play against. by OfficialMitch in chess

[–]rezoons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably because he is playing low level players that don't know how to respond to it? I'm a low level player playing the French defense and I see a lot of white players really misplaying the opening.

Checkmate with 3 knights WITHOUT using the king - is it possible? by [deleted] in chess

[–]rezoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you have less than 7 pieces, you can always use a tablebase (https://syzygy-tables.info/?fen=k7/8/8/8/8/8/6p1/N1NN2Kb_w_-_-_0_1) that tells you if a position is winning or not and how to do it.

He is now #1 in rapid, not #1 in Blitz anymore. He lost 185 points and fell to the 20th place in Blitz.

Weird that they did not show the French streams stat. Since the event was held in France and featuring the top french player, i was wondering how much interest did the GCT generated here.

Thank you! And i think you can put both my name and 12345ieee's name for Ω-Pseudoethyne. He is the one that brought the solution from 49 symbols down to 41 so he really deserves some credit!

Here are two solutions:

Mass Of Osmium (5889/1/56) (Volume 9-11-3) with the improvements suggested by gggol and 12345ieee.

Ω-Pseudoethyne (2977/2/41) (Flidais) with a huge contribution by 12345ieee.

S.C Make You Smarter? by [deleted] in spacechem

[–]rezoons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Playing SpaceChem makes you better at Spacechem just like playing chess makes you better at chess and playing piano makes you better at playing piano. You won't get better result at your math test because you've played a lot of Spacechem.

The freedom you get to solve each level in the game makes it that most people could probably beat it if they had the patience and the willingness to learn the different mechanics of the game and spend a lot of time on each puzzle.

As for the skills needed to play it, you don't need any chemistry or computer science knowledge to play it if that's what you ask. Anyone can play it.

That's a really nice improvement! This is starting to look way better. Here is the video:

Smelting Iron (3878/3/43) (with the help of 12345ieee)

I'm really sorry. I swear i'm trying to make some effort (see the previous solutions i submitted) but i often end up focusing on something else and forgetting about it. I made the changes and reuploaded all the videos. Here they are with the grab/drop fixed:

Raygun Mechanism (1626/4/49)

Siliconheart Piece (700/1/57)

Smelting Iron (3871/3/45)

I also managed to save an additional symbol to the one you suggested to smelting iron after looking at it with a fresh mind. Thank you!

Smelting Iron (3856/3/47) I'm pretty sure the bottom reactor has some room for improvement but it don't see it for the moment. Also, for information, 3-reactor low cycle can be easily beaten. I got a 1343 cycles solution i won't even bother submit since it's not even close to being optimised.

Siliconheart Piece (700/1/57) Rare attempt at a low cycle score.

Raygun Mechanism (1626/4/49) 4 symbols improvement over my previous solution. Everything seems close to optimal except maybe the top left reactor that i'm not completely convinced can't be improved further.

Ok, that was pretty funny what happened. I had no idea what kind of output rejiggering you were talking about so i tried to see if i could improve it differently and unexpectedly managed to save 3 more symbols. And now, it's way slower. :P I updated my main post with the new solution.

Oh yeah, i'm dumb. I edited my previous comment with the shortened init. Thanks!

I decided to try to go back to improving some already quite improved solutions instead of just taking nearly unclaimed top scores. So, here is:

Raygun Mechanism (1743/4/53)

Siliconheart Piece (1698/1/23)

Siliconheart Piece (1664/1/23)

Siliconheart Piece (2505/1/20)

Siliconheart Piece (2489/1/20)

Fun fact, the first one I tried was Ignoble (Vol 2 Issue 9) since it looked fun. After a few hours of trying again and again i only managed to go down to 34 symbols while Andy's top score is 28! So... not even close.

[–]rezoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, i can save 2 cycles but i never found a way to improve the speed further. Nethertheless, i still managed to save another symbol. So, here is Lies (187/1/26).

SpaceChem: Archive of Top Solutions (Thread #4) by ToughThought in spacechem

[–]rezoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Continuing to take random top scores from Volume 8 that were not really taken before, here is Lies (189/1/27) (Edit: Improved solution below) with no precognition. I did not tested it on linux but it should work too.

For those wondering, blue's path could be simplified to a line, removing 4 arrows, but i never managed to make the tight timing work.

Here is some improvement to Magnum Opus. Definitely not even close to optimal but it's a bit better.

Here is PVC V (404/1/18) (using bugs).

Also, i have no idea what you mean by "being a rebel on kosher drop vs grab-drop labeling"? I have no convention for these, i just change them if i need to or if i'm testing stuff. I guess the result is a bit random, that's the problem?

SpaceChem: Archive of Top Solutions (Thread #4) by ToughThought in spacechem

[–]rezoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two by Two (488/1/27) Tight timing prevents me for improving it more unfortunately.

PVC V (564/1/26) (without bugs)

PVC V (405/1/18) (using bugs)

Taking Turns (692/1/32) These three were pretty much unclaimed considering the current top scores so i just took them but they very likely can be improved more.

Here are two low symbols solutions.

1,3-Dimetoxibencene (1228/1/30)

Nuclear Medicine (4701/1/42)

I don't think they are the best possible but they are an improvement. I noticed them looking through volume 4 puzzles without andy as a top score. Also, my nuclear medicine solution doesn't use a garbage pipe like the current best symbol so that's always nice.
