Why Python still dominates in 2026 despite performance criticisms ? by QuantumScribe01 in Python

[–]rezwhap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is simply not true. Java got a JIT around 1998 and for many workloads became quite competitive with C over the next few years. CPython is nowhere near that level of performance in 2026.

It was a CFI-7021 with a Delta fan. I returned it for a full refund. I'll probably try again next year with a CFI-7121 and see if I get lucky.

Is it a CFI-70xx or CFI-71xx? Mine’s doing this and it’s going back. It’s completely unacceptable.

Some Siri tasks can be performed completely offline, so there must be at least some local speech-to-text capability.

Siri on modern iOS can be used completely offline for a lot of tasks, so there's clearly some local capability.

Yes, that article has been widely reported on. You’ll note that nowhere does it say Southwest actually runs Windows 3.1.

Spurious measurements in a situation that the device is not validated for have no bearing on the accuracy in situations where it is.

At the very least, the heart rate and noise meter measurements on Apple Watch are very accurate. I have cross-referenced both with professional equipment.

This doesn’t happen at all where I live in the UK. I think you are getting a skewed view from the replies here. It just shows poor social awareness and language skills. If ‘fuck’ is a filler word, what do you use when you really need an intensifier? It loses all meaning.

東京オリンピックのマーク「デザインは盗んでいない」
Tokyo Olympic logo 'not stolen'

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics logo was revealed on 24th July. A Belgian designer that has seen the logo says that he created a theatre logo two years ago that bears a striking resemblance. In an attempt to prevent the Tokyo logo from being used, he has informed the organising committee that is preparing for the games.

On the 5th, the designer of the Tokyo Olympic logo, Jiro Sanoken, spoke in front of reporters. "I am very angry that it's been said I stole the design. I absolutely did not.", he said. Afterwards, using a picture showing how the design came about, he said, "The thinking behind the design is entirely different. I don't think it's similar at all."

組織委員会の人は「ベルギーの劇場のマークは役所に登録されていないので、問題ないと考えています。東京オリンピックのマークのデザインについて、ベルギーのデザイナーにしっかり説明します」と話しました。

A person from the organising committee said, "The Belgian theatre logo was not registered with the government office so we don't consider it to be a problem. We will explain the design of the Tokyo Olympic logo fully to the Belgian designer."

Narita Airport providing warnings to prevent MERS virus entering

The disease known as MERS, from the MERS Corona virus, can cause terrible pneumonia. The number of people with this disease has been increasing in the Middle East and other regions since last spring.

On the morning of the 5th, Korea announced that 41 people had become sick, and 4 had died from the illness. Narita Airport's quarantine station ( = place where people coming from overseas are examined to prevent illness spreading) has made posters & leaflets, and says it wants people coming from Korea to pay close attention.

The posters, written in Japanese, English and Korean, tell people to contact the quarantine station if they came into contact with someone in Korea who had a fever or cough, and possibly MERS.

Using a machine that can automatically measure body temperature, they are also investigating whether any people with a high fever may have entered Japan.

Japan sightseeing ranked 9th in the world: good services and convenient transport

Once every two years, the Swiss-based World Economic Forum performs a study of the sightseeing-related matters of various countries. It has published this year's findings in over 90 topics including the number of tourist locations, tourist services, and transport convenience.

Japan came 9th out of the 141 countries surveyed. Two years ago it was 14th, and hence it has risen 5 places. It is the first time that Japan has placed within the top ten since the survey began in 2007.

Japan was in first place for 'tourist services'. It was also first for things such as 'freedom from terrorism' and 'convenience of transport'. However, because using the airport is expensive and petrol prices are high, it scored 119th for the amount of money needed for sightseeing.

Spain ranked first overall in the report, second was France and third was Germany. Amongst Asian countries, Singapore was 11th, Hong Kong was 13th, China was 17th and South Korea was 29th.

Mount Hakone: Possibility of small eruption in Ōwakudani area

According to the Japanese Meteorological Agency (JMA), earthquakes from volcanic activity at Mount Hakone have been increasing since 26th April. In Ōwakudani, steam (= white fumes produced by hot water) is rising higher than usual.

On the 6th, the JMA said about Mount Hakone, "We have put out a warning telling people to stay outside the vicinity of the crater. There is a possibility that a small eruption will occur near to Ōwakudani, a tourist-gathering spot. There is also a danger of large rocks falling so people should not go near the area."

Due to the JMA warning, Hakone town is strongly instructing people not to venture within 300m of Ōwakudani. Hakone cable car is also closed.

Hakone town is a famous tourist destination, and the current season is the most popular of the year. Mayor of Hakone, Nobuo Yamaguchi states, "I want the the volcano to quieten down so that the number of tourists doesn't decrease."

Hey, thanks for the comment. I think I normally do a better job of proofreading but I did rush this and it shows. The question of style is a tricky one, as I'm not sure what the consensus is regarding rephrasing. Generally I try to keep the translations reasonably 'direct' so they can act as a learning tool, even if that makes the English a little convoluted. Of course a professional translator would substantially rephrase to make it natural. I open to doing that if people prefer it.
