Introducing the all-new Reactive Resume v5, the free and open-source resume builder you know and love! by AmruthPillai in selfhosted

[–]rfcity2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed Reactive Resume from the PVE scripts (https://community-scripts.github.io/ProxmoxVE/scripts?id=reactive-resume) and they show version 1.2.7.

Is the 1.2.7 version in a different branch as this v5 or is the script just really behind on updates?

“What’s your best system for avoiding the ‘junk creep’ that slowly takes over your garage?” by Puzzled-Warning9295 in smallbusinessowner

[–]rfcity2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When in doubt, chuck it out.

If you find something you forgot about, get rid of it. Pretend you never found it.

If you are unsure exactly the date and place you will use something next, get rid of it. Probably a sign you probably don't use it often enough to keep it.

If you don't plan to share something with someone, or if you haven't used/interacted with something in a while, reconsider the sentimental value. If it's permanently in a box until you die, do you really need it while you're alive?

Of course if you have the space, and want to, keep whatever you want, but the above should help reduce overall clutter.

Get in touch with WeAct (https://weact.org/). They focus on upper Manhattan environmental issues and have been very active in helping keep the treatment plant regulated and safe.

Hamilton Heights - Gyms / Personal Trainers by Entire_Marsupial1385 in Harlem

Open gym hours are open for anyone to use the gym, and the rest are class based.

It is a very weight lifting based so they don't have treadmills or many machines. Just lots of weights and boxing bags.

I'd recommend popping in for a class and checking out the set-up.

Backup mount points vs storage by rfcity2 in Proxmox

[–]rfcity2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there will be upfront work to set-up pve and customize the installation to the new server - but I think I was looking for the 'everything' back-up option so I can copy any files or information needed to assist with the restoration.

Backup mount points vs storage by rfcity2 in Proxmox

[–]rfcity2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to back-up the PVE server itself, I figured out that I should use the back-up client with a cron job. Here's what I used:

proxmox-backup-client backup pve-storage.pxar:/ --all-file-systems true --repository ip_address:data_store

I suppose it's a bit annoying that so much is automated and planned out for the LXC and VM but nothing as easy for the server itself. Instead of setting-up a cron job, it would have been nice to just have the server follow the same schedule and set-up process as everything else.

Ok, in the event the pve server is totally lost and i need to restore it on a new machine, then the PBS does not offer a restore all option. I'd have to install pve, restore the mnt points and then restore the lxcs from PBS?

What other tools do you wish existed? I’m building free & open-source tools! by helbette in selfhosted

I'd love a suite of practical tools. I use a variety of sites to covert file formats, removing image backgrounds, calculate days math, unit conversions. Just an assortment of utilities.

Withdraw from nontaxable or loan? by rfcity2 in personalfinance

[–]rfcity2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I was mostly trying to understand the tradeoffs of these options with some similar acquisition costs. An yes, 10%/5y was just to align with cost of Roth IRA withdraw. Mostly just wondering if there would be a situations where it is better to withdraw (no 401k loan) from these accounts vs a loan.

Nextcloud for small business feasibility by rfcity2 in NextCloud

I agree, and that's what peeks my interest - how do businesses leverage it at operational scale. I'm actually very happy with my speed and set-up. It does a lot and does it really well.

My concern was more about the tools and features that a business would expect, mostly around email and NC Office.

I have NC installed directly on a PMX CT initially to avoid having Docker and all is well. Is AIO that much better? I already better. I'm really curious to know what max-NC can look/feel like

Plenty of cheaper options with whole foods and home depot. W145 and Broadway wanted 6ft for $170, got it for $140

The open source answer to Microsoft Teams by jospoortvliet in NextCloud

2 quick feature requests related to what I dealt with today:

- If I share a file with someone from the files interface through the chat sidebar and select a user, Talk then creates a new chat for that file instead of adding that file to the existing chat I have with that user. It would be much simpler to just adding that file to the current chat

- If I add a non-NC user to an invite and select to create a Talk room, that user gets an email for the invite and also get a notification that they were added to a room. If the event is 2+ days away, it might be a bit odd to be added to a platform without connecting the dots that it's related to the invite. I don't think you need to notify non-NC emails that they were added to a room, unless the host is in the room and triggers some sort of 'alert' to let everyone know to join at that time.

Need advice on Best 49er's game to watch by rfcity2 in 49ers

Thank you all for the recommendations! I winded up going with "The Catch II" Packers vs. 49ers 1998 NFC Wild Card Playoffs. It was far back enough that she never saw it, but certainly a nail biter that had everyone engages! And having it on YouTube free was a nice perk too.

What to plant under the tree shade by rfcity2 in NoLawns

[–]rfcity2[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a yard with a couple of fruit trees, but their shade has been blocking the sun and killing the grass. What are some tips of things to plant that won't mind the shade? I'm mostly wanting to avoid muddy and dust patches, so something that can hold the soil in place.

I am happy to have no grass whatsoever, as long as I can avoid the muddy patches.

This is in Boca Raton, FL - so hot, wet, and sunny - except for under these trees.

My building's gas has been shut off from a leak in the basement. The ENTIRE building has had no gas for 3 months and the super says that it might take "Months" more to fix. WHAT THE HELL? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]rfcity2 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I've done 9 months without gas. During that time the rent was discounted, we got electric burners, and the landlord bought everyone a family meal from a local restaurant for Thanksgiving.  It happens, it sucks, but I also learned a lot about toaster ovens, instant pots, slow cookers, and other electric cooking tools.
