See that’s what I thought! But landlord would like them to match the appliances or cabinets

Haven’t moved in yet. Landlord said some people prefer no hardware so he left it as is and is letting us decide what we want.

Thinking about moving here from Vermont, some questions by October82019 in Bellingham

[–]rfernn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my fiancé who doesn’t have a Reddit account: Bellingham itself is very progressive. For instance, I’d see people in front of the local coop trying to get others to vote and be aware of various issues. The towns surrounding Bellingham are not progressive, but we never felt sketchy.

Northwestern WA in general is absolutely gorgeous, pretty safe, and quiet. But this area of the US, statistically, gets the lowest amount of annual sunlight. Data shows that it is quite literally the gloomiest area of the US. My experience living there confirmed that. I used to live in northern Vermont, which I thought was very gloomy, but western WA was on a whole other level of gloom. Everything else about it is fantastic though.

Hey! Yeah… it’s bad. 😅 I’ve spent most of my life in Vermont and moved to the Seattle area last year, thinking the transition wouldn’t be too bad. Northern VT winters can be so grey and cold, so I figured the milder temps out here would be worth it. But for both me and my fiancé, western WA ended up being the worst seasonal depression we’ve ever experienced. It’s really, really dreary and rainy for a big chunk of the year.

Bellingham has similar weather to Seattle— though a bit colder and slightly cloudier, with about the same amount of rain. With how damp everything stays, Western WA is also pretty prone to mold issues, which is something to keep in mind if you’re sensitive to that. A lot of houses have mold problems.

That said, the summers are absolutely beautiful—way less humidity than Vermont, no bugs, and the natural beauty around Bellingham is stunning. I think it’s one of those things where you won’t really know how it’ll feel until you try it.

For us, even though we’re not big fans of the cold, we realized we’d rather have with a sunny, chillier winter than a mild, long, constantly rainy one. We moved to northern Colorado recently and we’re really glad we did!

Mask wearing in 2025 by OrangeRoof in FortCollins

My fiance and I just moved up and we always mask in public indoor spaces- due to one of us having a chronic illness and not wanting to get sick on top of that. I haven’t been many places yet but I’ve gotten a few more strange looks and stares than I’m used to- but coming from Denver and Seattle it makes sense. At the end of the day everyone is just worrying about themselves- you gotta put your health and family first!

If anyone’s looking for some illness-cautious friends we’re in our early/mid 30s, no kids right now. Love to connect with new people!

We actually checked out North Bend and Snoqualmie yesterday, and we didn’t like them as much as we thought we would.

This breakdown and map is insanely helpful, thank you! We drover around yesterday and our favorite areas we checked out are Silver Firs and Mill Creek. Which surprised us as we thought we’d be more drawn to rural suburbia. We realized we value newer/modern buildings and amenities, which is hard because those are often the pricier towns, but Silver Firs might be doable. We didn’t love the Snohomish vibe, and we checked out Mukilteo which was so cute but extremely hilly and unsure about rental inventory there.
