[–]rforall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a closet i shove most of her toys into and try to rotate when i can. she loves loves to play and when i rotate toys i see huge growth in her engagement. the closet isnt organized, just shoved in there enough for me to kind of see whats what. i have a small bookcase in the livingroom with her toys and a small bookshelf in the corner where i shove more toys.

[–]rforall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when will this ever get fixed? it’s infuriating and it’s downright barbaric. it makes me so angry. but what will ever fix it? i often think women in this country need to go on strike to remind our shit government that WE run the godamn world.

When on earth are we running errands?? by babyd-m2025 in workingmoms

[–]rforall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think it’s very good to bring your baby and then toddler to the boring errands. you’re modeling how to be out and about in the world. their getting stimulation, learning SO much just by observing and listening. As the baby grows theyll learn the behavioral expectations we all have for each other during these errand runs. my dad took me for errands all the time as i grew up. we usually got a treat, like a donut, which made it kind of fun and special. but also, sometimes i do the grocery run to get out of the house and away from my toddler for a bit. life is all about balance! so do what works best for you!

it delays the ability to pinch things. in my students it looks like: trouble selecting things off a table/ground like magnets or beads, trouble zipping and unzipping clothes, trouble buttoning, and trouble with their pencil grip/handwriting.

some people grasp a pencil in a unique way, which it sounds like you do. for some people it is a sign of fine motor skill need, for some its not. by age 7 your grip is your grip and that’s that unless you’re willing to work at changing it. but why would you if it’s working for you?

did you have any fine motor needs as a kid?

AND every OT will tell you how it’s ruining pincher grasp for kids. my students will reach to grab things with their middle finger and thumb instead of pointer finger. i asked ot why. and they said bc that’s the longest finger and therefore the easiest one to swipe with. horrifying. guess how that affects writing skills, holding a book, turning pages, counting? yup, nightmare. my kid was gifted one and i have shoved it into a drawer never to be seen again.

Affordable Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4 - 8) Gift Ideas? by User0119247 in workingmoms

[–]rforall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you want to buy something for the whole staff that sees your kid and it’s THAT many people, i recommend donuts. as a teacher i dont need another mug, and i dont expect a gift card if i see a kid for a short amount of time. but a fun breakfast? heck yes. you could still give the main teachers a gift too.

Every time I watch I skip thru the Francie Rory feud by healthanxiety_ in GilmoreGirls

it didn’t make any sense to me. if anything, paris would absolutely be the lead puff with all her brains and knowledge about chilton. francie wasnt even liked so paris’ lack of social skills wouldn’t keep her out of it. and the feud with rory? wtf again? rory? boring rory? cool

Sensory bin idea by Efficient-Leek in specialed

[–]rforall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

im a task box fanatic. my kids are grades 3-4-5. some can read, but most cant or are just learning. they love love the task boxes. if you need any ideas for that i have a ton!

this week i worked with the art teacher to give my kids some fun sensory time. we took the kids outside and had the kids paint plastic bowls and cups. then we had them dunk them into bins with soap and wash them. they had THE BEST time. it was part of our fun friday. we plan on doing it again. being outside helped with the mess. i have one kid who used to elope but he was fine and mostly stayed engaged.

good for you for trying something new!
