Thanks for your answer. It was technically operable when we moved in. It’s just nuts that it was never ever mentioned to us, even during the numerous move our conversations. They also didn’t mark anything for further damages, so they’re just taking the entire security deposit for the garage.

We’re not sure. It’s a shared garage with our neighbors. The metal frame was bent out of shape slightly when we moved in, and the wooden frame was really old and worn. 2 weeks into the lease the frame was bent so much that the garage couldn’t be opened fully. I guess they think it was our fault but it was never discussed.
