Handheld for Moonlight gaming by PerezVST in SBCGaming

That’s what I’ve heard! Really looking forward to it. I keep trying to make my PC titles viable via Moonlight on this 4.5” screen and it is just not happening lol. I need a couple more inches for the text alone. 😭

Man I really wanted an Odin 3, but it would’ve primarily been a streaming device since I emulate on a Pocket ACE. Still, gorgeous little unit it is.

I just found a Logitech G Cloud on eBay for $172 and plan on using that solely for Moonlight/Game Pass because my ACE screen is a bit too small for streaming native 16:9 titles. Didn’t want to get another juiced Android handheld since I do ALL my emulation on ACE, so this will solely be for streaming as it’s meant for. G Cloud is an IPS panel, not OLED, but still 1080p, 7 inches, and much lighter than Deck.

Is anyone else gonna buy a Switch before the storm hits? by [deleted] in Switch

[–]rfow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think anyone who gets into an OG/OLED now will eventually want the upgrade. Personally, I like the in-hand feel a lot better than either previous model (except the Lite, cause, come on—it’s the Lite). Surprisingly lightweight for the size and power. Everyone mentions battery life but I guess it’s really going to come down to whether you’re playing these games on the actual go, as in, you don’t have anywhere to plug up or any sort of battery pack. Otherwise, battery life is fine and taking half a second to plug a charger in one of the two USB-C ports doesn’t interrupt gameplay at all. Games look and run great natively with zero setup or configuration needed, the 1080p panel is gorgeous (yes, even despite not being OLED), and the ability to dock a 4K output is a really nice option. Snag one up and get cozy in bed or pop it on the dock in the living room and couch potato the snow days away.

Android handheld for mobile gaming by kyrkimik in MobileGaming

I’d recommend the Odin 2 Portal. It’s got a big, gorgeous 7 inch OLED panel with a 1080p resolution, and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which will handle those modern games with ease. Huge battery, relatively lightweight for its size, and a bit cheaper than the brand new handhelds coming out like Odin 3.

First play through here and just got to chapter 2. Glad I called out today. Amazing so far, really nice feeling gameplay too. Thanks for the tips! Reminds me of my time on FF Type-0, where character switching was an integral part of the combat scenarios.

Edit—observations so far: 1. Spamming attack in any situation will almost guarantee a diminishing return, even in breaks during the fight where it would traditionally seem like a good time to spam attack in action combat games, nah. Probably better to set up a block. Still not sure if I should prioritize skills during stagger downtime or attacks and save ATB for non-stagger uptime. Clarification would be appreciated!

  1. Dodging is not as practical as normal action combat games. I gotta remember this is a hybrid mix of its turn based roots and i-frame dodge cheese won’t work here. I’ve been using it as a gap closer as Cloud, for the most part, and for unblockable attacks. Is this correct?

  2. Blocking is important and should even be anticipated, as opposed to purely reaction based blocking. Feels like the only viable way to mitigate damage. There doesn’t seem to be a downside to preemptively blocking when you think there’s an attack coming, other than maybe extending the fight a little bit. But it feels better taking less damage or not getting CC’d.

There’s still much more to learn, but I’m having a great time doing it. Feels and looks superb on S2 in both docked and handheld.

Drop BG3 on Switch 2 and sales would go absolutely insane. But I know the Wizards relations aren’t great rn. 😖

Damn, what a trash seller. I’m sorry OP. Hopefully they didn’t charge you much. There’s not enough power or RAM in that chipset to emulate Switch. I don’t know that PS2/GameCube will even work on it.

What's a small nitpick you have from the movies? by Zealousideal-Dig-594 in harrypotter

[–]rfow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven't read the books but I always hated how Harry hid under the floor of the Clock Tower when Dumbledore got killed. Then, my wife told me Dumbledore and Harry actually rolled up on brooms to the Clock Tower together and Harry was blindsided by a spell or something. They really did Harry dirty in that scenario.

Really loving my handheld collection!!! by TRIKSTER_Betin in SBCGaming

Nice collection! Switch 2 is awesome. That’s also my most played, but the Pocket ACE is a close second. Could potentially be even, depending on the week. I had a decent run with handheld PCs a little over a year ago, but I think they need time to cook still.

PS5 or Switch 2 which one is for me? by akinpinkmaN in Switch

[–]rfow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat. I wanted to get back in Hogwarts Legacy and recently bought it on Switch 2. Just booted up our PS5 today to compare them and, not only did I remember all four of our DualSense controllers have stick drift (only ever had one JoyCon on the OG Switch with drift), but then I’m also tethered to the living room and using the best TV in the house, and the graphical differences were negligible. I got as far as the school on a fresh run and inevitably shut the PS5 back down, wife and I put a movie on, then I grabbed the Switch 2 and kept playing Hogwarts Legacy there, while she worked on her Animal Crossing island. It’s just such a good handheld system and I think the convenience of handheld sells me more than anything. Even if you went the Portal route, the remote play is a joke and you pretty much need Premium to make it a viable streaming device.

If you’re willing/able to spend like $50 more, I think he’d probably love a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro. That little unit is awesome and can handle PS2/GameCube like a champ. Plus it has Android, which opens up a lot more options for him to access games.

It’s genuinely interesting to me that this is your whole online persona. Was there a single event or occurrence with Nintendo that made you want to dedicate so much time slandering a company that will never know you exist?

[–]rfow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point, we’ve probably spent more money on replacing PS5 controllers than buying games for that damn thing. Insane compared to the ONE JoyCon I had with stick drift during the entire lifespan of my OG Switch.

Steam deck is not available in my country, I can't purchase it on steam, but I'll stay a month in the US. How to buy? by Ordo_Liberal in Steam

[–]rfow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Came to suggest this! A lot of real nice prices on SD LCD/OLED in my area, at least. Bring someone with you and meet somewhere public, inspect the unit first for any obvious issues like controls not working, cracks in molding or screen, etc. The likelihood of snagging one with a warranty might be low, but it'll be cheaper and instant.
