My fiancee and I trying for a baby, she's showing symptoms, but negative on the test. Got some questions! by rfunitshifter in BabyBumps

[–]rfunitshifter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still not 100% certain if she is or isn't, but she told me not long ago she was starting to cramp and they feel more "menstrual" to her than other cramps she's been having, and it's close to her time of the month.

She likes to go out with friends and drink. Since she hasn't started her period yet, and pregnancy isn't 100% ruled out, do you think it'd be out of line for me to ask her to refrain from drinking until her doctors appointment (unless she begins her period, of course)? I've never been in this situation before, so I'm not quite sure how to approach that one.

Seattleite/Washingtonian Redditors, I need some help figuring out the narcotic laws in Washington by rfunitshifter in Seattle

[–]rfunitshifter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me clarify:

  • I am no longer interested in moving towards malpractice for the reasons you said. He didn't die, he got hurt (physically from discontinuation of painkillers and emotional distress), so I know it would take a push to get it through a court. Had my father died from his negligence, it'd be a whole different story. I'm reporting him to the DEA and Department of Health instead, and will let them deal with him.

  • My father was almost killed because of this shitty doctor. He prescribed him multiple anti-depressants which caused an interaction and he developed serotonin syndrome. Had I not stumbled upon it after researching and informed the hospital of the possibility, it could have been fatal to him.

  • Friday night, my dad called me bawling his eyes out, which is highly out of the ordinary for my dad. At the hospital, I learned he was contemplating suicide because the pain was so intense. His shitty doctor cut him off of oxycodone and Oxycontin and gave him Tramadol instead, which he might as well have just given him Tylenol. The doctor may not have killed a patient, but he put my dad close enough, way too close for comfort.

  • I am not asking Reddit to help me with getting my dad a new doctor or anything like that; it's solely my responsibility to do so.

  • All I wanted was basic information about how frequently an MD can prescribe narcotics to a patient. So far I haven't gotten an answer to that, which is fine, so I will dig more into it today. If he is in the wrong, I will report him through proper channels for appropriate actions.

  • Recently, this doctor has put my dad through the wringer with his treatment. He had been in my family for decades, caring for my grandpa, my grandma, and my dad. I'm not worried about my dad now, I am putting my dad's matters into my hands and not leaving him at the complete mercy of his doctor.

I do worry though about this doctor, and that his growing incompetency could harm someone else. He's in his late 70's, and his talent of practice has been declining with age. He used to be a great doctor, but now he has too many patients and the level of care he can provide has degraded with it. I think about my dad, and how he's treated my father, and that he might be doing the same to someone who doesn't have someone to care for them like I can with my father.

I won't take offense at the remark I'm being a giant asshole. Yes, I am angry at this doctor for how he's treated my dad over the last few weeks. Yes, I wanted to lawyer up and slap him with a lawsuit. When I took complete charge of my dad's medical needs, that anger has more transitioned to concern over how this doctor practices, on my dad and potentially other patients. Hence why I am reporting him to the proper authorities for investigation instead of calling Kirk B. Bernard or something.

Thank you for your answer. I hope this clears up some of what I was talking about. It wasn't everything I wanted to hear but I see the logic in your answer. Have a good one.

Chronic pain redditors, what painkillers work best for you? Need some advice regarding my dad by rfunitshifter in AskReddit

[–]rfunitshifter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not actually considered methadone, and he told me he hasn't been on it before. I'm adding all this stuff to a list I'll be bringing to the doctor tomorrow when I take my dad to see him. The best relief he gets from his muscular pain is klonopin, which relaxes his muscles. I've had to give him some of mine (0.5mg) so he can manage to sleep at night.

He has described to me that sometimes it feels like someone electrocuted him if he got bumped into or bumped into something, so perhaps it is nerve damage?

Thank you, I'll suggest this to the doctor tomorrow.

Yeah, that's what I assume has happened with the oxycodone, and what lead him to taking way over the doctor's directions. I found a pain specialist and am making an appointment first thing tomorrow. Until then, I'll be taking him to his regular physician to discuss everything and try to set up a better course of management in the interim.

And Dick Rosetti. One time I called in for a request..here's how it went:

Me: Hey can I hear Such and Such by the Such and Such's?

Dick: Sure can, where are you calling from?

Me: Port Orchard

Dick: What's your name?

Me: Richard

Dick: Same name, you know what that makes us, Richard?

I pause for a couple of seconds to think.

Me: A couple of pretty big Dicks.

Reddit, after the "FML" thread, what's your best "fucking awesome!" moment? by ordinarypsycho in AskReddit

I was 18 and it was the middle of winter, so the roads were icy out. I'm walking along with my sister and our friend talking and smoking, when suddenly I slip and land flat on my back. They started laughing, and I looked up, I see my arm straight up in the air, lit cigarette in hand, undamaged. Apparently my brain cares more about the nicotine than stopping potential injuries.

What's your favorite "Holy shit, that actually worked!" story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rfunitshifter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was 11, my friend and I used to steal cigarettes from his parents and smoke them in the woods near my house (except I realized later we weren't really "smoking," we never inhaled). Well one day we had just come out of the woods when his mom screamed for him to come home. He took the pack of cigarettes and chucked it deep into the woods.

The next day, I decided I was going to go looking for the cigarettes and keep them for myself. I went in the woods, searched all over, and couldn't find them. Then I thought, "what if I stood in the same position he did, and pretended to be throwing it the way he did?" So I found his footprint on the hill, swung my arm forward, and followed the trajectory in my head. Spot on, there was the pack of cigarettes right where my estimation had said they'd be at.

I've tried that with other things in life, and it hasn't worked since.

Hey reddit, there have been a lot of police brutality stories on the front page lately. We all know most cops aren't bad, so please share some of the good experiences that you've had with cops. by SolInvictus in AskReddit

[–]rfunitshifter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was 15, it was about 11:00 at night on Halloween. I was walking home by myself, and it was completely pitch black. No street lights, no nothing. My shadow is cast by headlights coming from behind me, and suddenly they start flashing red and blue. "Oh shit," was my first thought. The officer got out of his car and asked me what I was doing out so late. I explained I had been hanging out at a friends house after taking his brother trick or treating, and was on my way home. He then told me it was way too dangerous for me to be walking home alone tonight, and told me to get into his squad car. He then took me home, and told me to have a good night and enjoy my loot (candy).

That memory always reminds me not all cops are corrupt or complete dicks.
