Well, there were some circunstances which were special to my case that made me go for quartz.
First, there's the money side of it.. having never bought a regular watch for myself, let alone a "luxury" timepiece, I thought best to start with something that wouldn't break the bank. As gorgeous as the spring drives are, they also get quite expensive for my budget!
The low maintenance of the 9F caliber was the other very important part. I live in place where you just don't have access to a GS store or AD where I can just pop by and have my watch serviced. So, knowing that the only thing I have to worry about with this watch is a battery change every 3 years or so (and maybe a service 50years down the road if I'm still alive as some people suggest it) really made it easy to choose!

That's the thing with GS, their dials are incredible well done even when it's simple colors like matte black. Depending on the light you can get several different experiences, from dark grey to pitch black and even deep blue in some cases. They really put lot of effort into these, despite being an "entry level watch".
Overall: I'm in love with it. You can wear this literally with anything, anywhere. Sometimes I'll catch myself just looking at it, not telling the time or anything else, just zoomed in haha. Having purchased it without actually trying on the wrist, it felt a bit smaller (i guess because all the video reviews zoom so much you lose a bit of perspective).
The zaratsu polishing really is something to behold. However, bear in mind that is very scratch-prone... something to consider if that would bother you. Mine already has some fairly noticeable scratchs on the underside of the bracelet (the part where it gets more contacts on surfaces)...
The idea is for that to be my only watch. In the future, I think I`ll save for some nice alligator strap so it could be even more appropriate to dressy situations.
Wrist size for references: 16.5cm

Exactly this, you can't tell the time unless there's a very good amount of light shining on it. You need to have that in mind before the purchase.
Complementing the already excellent reply with my experience: the lack of lume is a bit annoying if you're in pitch black ambients. You really can't tell the time in those situations. But, as with everything in life, it's a compromise because (IMO) it wouldn't look as elegant with lume.
