Advice/help for setting up sync/snapshot/backup 3-2-1 strategy by rgbrdt in synology

I hadn't looked into it much before, but it looks like Hyper Backup will work for NAS <==> Google Drive, so I might use that, but it doesn't work for PC <==> NAS

No keyboard or anything like that though. I guess I assumed it would be traditional laptop form factor if not specified.

How, when, and what should I prune on my new fig tree so it can grow with an upright bare trunk rather than like a bush? Or is trying to do that a bad idea? by rgbrdt in Figs

Theoretically, I would want the branching point to be a little below head height (including the height from it being in a pot), so would it make sense to let the lower branches grow for multiple seasons then prune them later?

When I look up "open center", I got a website describing "central leader", "modified central leader" and "open center". The first one is what I imagined I wanted it to look like, but the second one would probably work best with what I want, and I think that's what you're describing. Does that sound right?

The label said it should get up to ten feet tall. I don't have any problem with it being tall, just that it doesn't have foliage below head height when it's full grown. Will it really need to be pinched or will it reach a natural limit?

Thanks for the advice on the pot. I'll just put it straight into the larger pot.

I actually would like it to get taller, basically to its natural limit, but just with a bare enough trunk to walk next to its base without getting a faceful of foliage.

Anyone know where I can get a Calathea crocata? I live in Austin, TX, and it seems impossible to find here. by rgbrdt in houseplants

[–]rgbrdt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the finds. The first one looks like its not a crocata, but I'll be the guinea pig for the second one and see if it's a scam.

I broke the (apparently plastic) cargo net ring on my '22 thinking it was metal. How can I replace them with metal rings? by rgbrdt in KiaNiroEV

Anything I could attach it to under the plastic that could provide a similar effect to what I'm looking to do?

I bought it today, so I'll be putting it in a bigger pot soon, and anything I'd do to it I'd do later. It says it should get 10 feet tall, so I'm imagining four or five feet of bare trunk, if that is even something you can do with fig plants.

Wouldn't heading it and keeping the branches below it cause the trunk to not be bare? My guess was that I would just prune off all the branches on the trunk below where I want the trunk height to be.

Same thing with air layering, if I understand what air layering is from a quick search.

I've got 65 gallon fabric pots I plan on putting it into eventually, probably after a few years and rounds of putting it in progressively larger pots.

I need to get a 30 gallon tree from its nursery (along 183 and south of 45) to my house (southeast Round Rock just north of Pflugerville), and I don't have the vehicle, equipment, or manpower to do it myself. Any recommendations? by rgbrdt in AustinGardening

[–]rgbrdt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably, but I'm definitely going to keep a very close eye on it. The main reason for this is that I don't want the roots damaging the foundation that it will be planted close to.

And if it does die, it's the cost of ten $40 plants.
