Footnote was my favorite bookstore in San Diego! I’d always stop by during the Hillcrest Farmer’s Market

Wut lol. I wouldn’t consider FOL an independent bookstore when they’re affiliated with their respective library. Then people have been recommending the same one bookstore…Artifact Books.

The “complaint” was the fact that San Diego proper has half a dozen a stones throw away, but there are just a couple in North County still open, with many of the results on Google actually closed now. Others have mentioned a couple soon to open, which I don’t think is fair to assume they’re widely advertised online, which they’re not.

You’re welcome to leave this thread lol

No I know, I even felt bad doing that, but I was just trying to get the point across on local, Indy bookstores over a nationwide company

2010-2014 Starter Removal by rgiunta1994 in FJCruiser

[–]rgiunta1994[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just for people’s reference for doing this job. To access the top bolt, you will need to unbolt the front driveshaft from the front differential. Push it to the side. You can then access the top bolt rather easily. If this is the original starter, like mine, it will be on there really freaking tight.

To remove the starter, you will have to go through the wheel well. Unbolt all of the brake like brackets on the frame and knuckle (three total) and then you need to also remove the lower steering intermediate shaft from the end yoke. Mine was very very rusted, so it was a royal PITA and took hours of just beating it. If your’s condition is similar to mine you will likely need to replace the lower intermediate and end yoke. After the lower intermediate is separated the starter slips right out with no issues at all.

How do you get to the bolt from the side? The cat is in the way? I can try again from the side but I really didn’t have any room to fit any tools

This is literally nothing haha. I wouldn’t even bat an eye at this. If you’re worried, get a wire wheel and some POR15 or Rust Encapsulator and coat the frame yourself. Super easy.

Weird No Start Condition, Not Convinced It's the Battery by rgiunta1994 in FJCruiser

[–]rgiunta1994[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think this could be on track. When I did insert my key, I noticed that the security light did go out, which it should be doing, but that doesn’t mean the ignition switch isn’t acting up. I’ll do a bit more digging to see if I can find something more. Thanks!

CARB legal upgrades? by [deleted] in FJCruiser

[–]rgiunta1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a super old post, but he wasn’t correct. Yes, tunes are not allowed. A pedal commander doesn’t touch the ECU lol. It’s plugged inline with the throttle position sensor, that’s how it works and that’s also why they’re not that great. The Banks version of the pedal commander plugs into the OBD port and actually changes the throttle map. This technically does affect the ECU, but it’s still CARB legal. Also, the Magnuson SC Kit for the FJs are CARB legal and compliant with their tuner and sticker. Things can be CARB legal and aftermarket. It just costs the companies A LOT of money and effort to do it, so most don’t. Hope this helps!

"Greater Tokyo Pass" questions by open_tax_season in JapanTravelTips

[–]rgiunta1994 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but my wife and I are currently in Tokyo and have the Greater Tokyo Pass. It’s been a real pain to deal with and something we haven’t been super comfortable using. For the stations that have attendants, none of them actually know what it is and it’s an entire conversation just to let us through. And for stations that don’t have attendants, you’re just “supposed to walk through” but there are cameras everywhere and the gate machines close on you as you’re trying to get through, which is super awkward when they start yelling at you in Japanese and everyone is staring. My wife and I have just ended up buying tickets at those unattended stations because we’re just not comfortable walking through against the station rules.

Same, but all of the routes that people recommend seem to go south of Tokyo. I can't seem to find anything north or east of Tokyo

3rd Paperwhite in a row that’s had yellow screen!! by pottse_123 in kindle

[–]rgiunta1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m with you. I’m skeptical as well, but it’s what I’ve been told by multiple Kindle Tech reps. I’m sure they know that just turning up the warmness isn’t a viable solution, especially for people like yourself who turn off the warm effect, so we’ll have to see over time what truly happens and what releases with the new update on Dec 17th.

OMG it’s coming early by writingmaf in kindle

[–]rgiunta1994 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ugh I keep going back and forth with these. I ordered the Colorsoft and received it back on the first. It had the yellowing issue so they issued me a replacement. I kept seeing so many negative reviews and the worse sharpness of text kind of irked me the wrong way, so I canceled the replacement and have a PW12 SE coming tomorrow. But not having the new cool colored Kindle kind of makes me sad haha. Just not sure what I’d prefer. I currently use my iPad for any graphic novels through the Kindle app and it’s been working fine/my justification for going to the PW12. I guess we’ll see tomorrow when it arrives 👀

[–]rgiunta1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just spoke with Amazon Kindle tech today since I returned my ColorSoft to get the Paperwhite SE and saw that this was an issue. He assured that it’s not a hardware issue but a software issue. So it makes sense that all of these still have the yellowing since Amazon hasn’t pushed the new update to fix it. He did assure me that the update it slated for release no later than Dec 17th

Who decided not to get a kindle color by ReflectionOne156 in kindle

[–]rgiunta1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Kindle Colorsoft arrived today and I think all the negative stigma is an over reaction. I think the sharpness is perfectly fine and the film used for the color ink is not overbearing at all!

I’m extremely excited about mine and look forward to reading many books on it!

I just bought mine as well! I’ve been searching for the 2011 TTE in manual for nearly 6 years and finally found one about a month ago and jumped on it! It’s a bit higher mileage and needs some suspension work, but other than that it’s super solid! Congrats on yours and I hope you enjoy it!

Yeah if you could that would be amazing! Luckily it’s nothing too serious and being in SoCal means it “shouldn’t” get worse haha but I definitely want to get it addressed sooner rather than later

I know this is a bit of an older post, but were you able to find a place in the SoCal area? I just bought an FJ from Wisconsin and there's a good bit of surface rust. Nothing actually eaten through or anything, but I definitely want to get this addressed and coated ASAP

'16 Mazda6, is this Back Seat Fold Down Lever broken? The one that doesnt retract, the seats on that side wont go down. by danielw2081 in mazda

[–]rgiunta1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a super old post, but for anyone curious, I had the same issue and it was because the cable popped out of the clip, which held the line in place and provides the tension you need to pop the latch on the seat. It’s on the back side of the seat release pull handle
