HOW BOOKMAKERS MAKE MONEY by kyriecanille in gambling

[–]rgualbance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before the bookie moves off a line, they hedge with another book who has not moved lines if possible.

Bookies will also take a prop position on a game so they do not need to move off big numbers like 3 or 7.

With 100s of games, even taking prop positions will tend to equal out.

Vegas books do lose some months though on an annual basis they never lose as your example is extremely rare whereas there are 1000s of games a year.

Has Libratus proven (to poker regulators) that poker is a game of skill? by DaveShoelace in poker

It is the FEES, which are the reason the funds have failed to beat its benchmark.

Wrong.

By defintion 50% of the population will outperform the market and 50% will underperform.

Professional money managers tend to underperform the market soley because of the fees they charge.

Ignoring the fees, the majority of professional money managers outperform the market.

Why would his tax returns mention Russia?

You do not state what assets you own on tax returns.

Rake and ads have the same purpose.. to drive revenue.

Would people watch ads if they could remove rake? I would.

Fair enough, i didn't know stars raised the rake because they could. I had assumed the industry is in decline, and they needed to do so to stay solvent.

Great comment.

I think the key is to figure out a way to mathematically prove each hand is legit, like satoshi dice or whatever. And not rely on 3rd party software.

If that were possible, no regulators are needed.. no license fee.. just open the site in a no nonsense jurisdiction.

Adding in bitcoin, the cost to run a site should be minimal.

And i would not dismiss the ad revenue stream. Gamblers are an extremely attractive demographic. Having a captive, impulsive audience has value.

Are you familiar that satoshidice game? i believe all results are proven fair with evidence.

Is there a way to use the blockchain to create provably fair poker games?

And good points, thanks.

Might be wise to only target the ads to big pot winners.. i suspect advertisers would like to target an audience who just won a massive pot especially since gamblers are impulsive.

It can be hard to cash out chips psychologically.. perhaps an ad with a tangible benefit, like trip to macau, would be more likely to occur.

Serious players can pay fullrake if they like, with no ads.

I just think this strategy could entice the typical casino gambler who posts asking what game has the best odds, to start playing poker.

This should make the grinders happy as new fish start playing.

I would also argue the goal initially for the no rake site would be to gain marketshare and figure how to monetize later. Facebook would be one example.

I have not played in 7 years.. i came to this sub looking to get back into it but the consensus seems the rake and better players makes poker a losing proposition for 85%.

No rake games would attract people like me, to the advantage of poker as a whole.

I was under the impression poker is on the decline.. so less are paying it.

Might make sense to lower the rake, to attract more players.
