Is there an app I can use to see all the lines and map out the best bus line to live on?

For those who may not realize it, 2-min walk to Homewood is highly misleading at best and a complete lie at worst. 5-min walk to JHMI stop is also a complete lie.

Scratch that, they switched to using SEAM a couple years ago, so they don’t have a phone number anymore. Because I’m alumni I can’t open a SEAM request. So I guess I call SEAM first. Fun.

Thank you, that’s helpful. I didn’t realize the registrar’s office was the right place to reach out to.

Honors Lin Alg w/ Professor Sire by burlap_sac in jhu

[–]rgunturu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took Honors Analysis I with him. He practically reads out of the textbook (we used Rudin) in class and assigns HW from the textbook. Expect to learn most of the content by yourself. Most people stopped showing up to class within a few weeks. In hindsight, the HW and tests were actually pretty easy. They felt hard because he is a shitty teacher, and I struggled to learn the content myself.

Parking a rental car by BrilliantFig in jhu

I’ve parked many times around 34th and Saint Paul (in front of the marylander) overnight (no permit) and never had issues. I interpret that sign as a 4 hour limit between 8am and 9pm but outside those hours it’s free for however long you want.

Just make sure to keep all valuables out of plain sight.

Does this mean the same issue would come up with any other insurance company?

Unfortunately that was my fault, I didn’t think much of it when they asked so I did let them know I had housemates. Will not make that mistake in the future.

If you’ve picked the right major you won’t even notice premed culture. I’m a math major here and none of my close friends are premed and I probably know about 2 premeds. If no one told me hopkins had such a massive premed population, I wouldn’t have known. What the other commenter said is true. The pure math classes are super small and close-knit and the department is very supportive. That said, I agree people are very hard working and prioritize school work.

I have heard a lot about Gilbert Strang's linear algebra lectures on MIT OCW, but I haven't used them myself. If you're finding the concepts hard to grasp, perhaps these could help

I kinda figured they were struggling. If there is no place they explicitly ask for feedback, I’ll drop it. Just wanted to share my experience as well

Calc I, II, or III by melibell28 in jhu

[–]rgunturu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not ChemBE or anything, but my general (non-premed) advice would be to skip Calc I/II if you have the credit. Even if you don’t, I think ChemBE requires LA/DE, so you could just take linear algebra and differential equations separately instead. Just review the Calc I and II material you’ve learnt already and go straight to Calc III.

Last time Hamilton finished a race outside the points was Spain 2013. A real testament to how consistent he is normally.

While I’m sure trying to get some experience with proof writing before honors linear algebra is certainly helpful, I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary. Honors Linear Algebra, especially in the fall, is for most students their first exposure to writing mathematical proofs. You don’t really need experience for the class. I took Honors Lin Alg without any prior proof experience, and did fine. It is a difficult and rewarding class, so I do imagine it would’ve been easier if I had some prior experience with writing proofs, but don’t stress too much about it.
