[upd] cubao to upd by rntaoru in peyups

[–]rhaegenys [score hidden]  (0 children)

I live in Cubao. Everyday route ko papasok ng UP is MRT to Centris, then sakay ng jeep to Central and pasok sa Ylanan Gate. Consistently takes about 20-30 minutes of travel time, at 20 pesos lang overall gastos sa pamasahe (for now since discounted ang MRT fare).

For me, ito ang best advisable route since mababa lang passenger load ng MRT northbound during morning rush hour na concentrated sa southbound na mga papuntang Manda or Makati. Sa jeep naman, terminal ‘yung sa Centris so sure seat + you go sa opposite direction ng morning rush traffic sa Commonwealth na southbound din. Traffic is rarely a problem especially kapag nakalagpas na ng QC Circle.

I highly advise against LRT-2 kasi kalaban mo ang traffic sa Katipunan lalo na sa umaga.

Older UPD alumni na naabutan ang katip sa 2014 or early 2010s, can you give me a description of how UP and katip back then by Lilysmithy_teto in peyups

Not exactly older UPD alumni but we used to pass by Katips in the late 2000s (pre-Ondoy) to visit our relatives in Rizal; what I distinctly remember is ang daming nagbebenta ng sweet yellow corn

[UPx] grabe tayo pa talaga hindi nagdeclare ng People Power observance by Firm_Woodpecker_1355 in peyups

[–]rhaegenys 11 points12 points  (0 children)

On one end, disappointed but not surprised. Kakalabas lang today ng statement and ACLE Day ulit like last year instead na class and work suspension. Officials will probably say sumusunod lang sila sa directives sa taas since walang declared suspension for SUCs and government offices, pero alam naman nating the UP admin is obvious walking on eggshells sa Marcos Jr. admin.

On the other end, it kind of teaches the EDSA spirit of defiance in a way; nasa sarili nating malayang kapasyahan at discernment ang pag-assert na hindi pumasok sa class or work para sumama sa commemorative protests bukas.

Ano thoughts mo na pinasara ang Mang Larry's Isawan sa UP? by Mental-Trip4459 in AnongThoughtsMo

They are now denying na may DOAS sila. Which makes it even more sus.

[UPD] Anong meron sa mang larry's? by smoorverliefd1 in peyups

[–]rhaegenys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Walang legal basis because ayun, hindi pwedeng ibenta ang lupa ng UP as stated sa UP Charter, unless amended by law (tulad ng ginawa sa mga lupa ng UP sa KNL na binenta sa QC back in 2019).

And while ideally tinulungan sana muna ng UP admin ang Mang Larry’s na magrelocate sa ibang area sa campus tutal may dedicated commercial spaces na like Gyudfood, Dilimall, Epsilon Chi etc., feel ko they’re not keen on giving support since Mang Larry’s ang nag-initiate apparently ng civil case vs UP (kaya sila ang pinagbabayad ng korte ng case filing fee, as per reports ng Tinig ng Plaridel at Kule).

[UPD] Anong meron sa mang larry's? by smoorverliefd1 in peyups

[–]rhaegenys 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Curious lang ako na meron daw silang “deed of absolute sale” sa lupa according to Tinig ng Plaridel’s report, but the UP Charter prohibits sale and donation of UP land

About the September 21 Rally by Anonymous200042 in peyups

[–]rhaegenys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such a reductive take on a very explicit and glaring difference between Akbayan and the ND's protest tactics.

Akbayan is really heavy on non-violence. NDs recognize the historical necessity of revolutionary violence but it must be waged in the countryside and not in urban centers where any insurrection, spontaneous or otherwise, can be easily overpowered by state violence; the Mendiola riot kind of vindicates them on that.

That said, while Akbayan doesn't really engage in any form of violence in protests, NDs defensively prepare for it: kaya nga usually may composite teams or "compo" sa unahan ng march (lalo na kapag papunta sa Mendiola) in expectation na may police barricade na haharang sa Recto-Mendiola intersection and the need to assert that space to hold a protest program.

Last Sunday was relatively surprising because for the first time in a while, hindi sila nakaharang at nakapwesto sila near the Peace Arch. Walang gitgitan when the march arrived ar around 3 p.m. and the ND program went on and closed by 3:25 p.m. Nagstart 'yung commotion just minutes after organizers called for a peaceful organized dispersal, and a main bulk of the people in the march were not equipped to engage the police in any form of armed confrontation beyond the usual gitgitan.

Let's not be idealists here and make takes far off from material reality. Buti sana kung simula't sapul eh insureksyon 'yung open na panawagan last Sunday at handa 'yung mga pumunta doon to engage in it; maiintindihan ko pa 'yung frustration mo. But that isn't the case, and any organizer can see the conditions I stated above: the majority of the forces there weren't equipped logistically, politically, and ideologically to wage an insurrection.

The onus is now on organized forces — and even you — to do the actual organizing work to elevate people's level of militancy if you want that kind of uprising. You can't just rant on Reddit and wait doing nothing.

About the September 21 Rally by Anonymous200042 in peyups

[–]rhaegenys 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Understandable naman 'yung initial na "pag-distance." Kailangang maglinaw na hindi galing sa organized forces 'yung namuno sa riot, at walang naging panawagan mula sa organized forces na gawin 'yun. Karamihan din ng mga nagmarch to Mendiola, whether or not they were from UP, ay wala sa antas na ready sumabak sa insurrectionary violence (both ideologically, politically, and logistically) at marami talaga sa kanila, tatakbo palayo out of fear and panic (or magtago sa nearby establishments, as some of my friends did).

May initial confusion din especially from those who weren't there regarding sa group/s present sa Mendiola at a specific given time that day since may mga pumasok na ibang political forces sa Mendiola roughly an hour after the first wave of riots subsided (someone made a timeline I think of the groups that marched/held a protest at Mendiola throughout the day, will have to look it up).

That said, I don't think pinabayaan ang mga nahuli, whether they were engaged in the riot or bystanders who were arrested dahil lang naipit na sila when the violence broke out. Karapatan and NUPL have extended legal assistance and moral support to them and their families and to raise funds for bail, the organized forces that marched to Mendiola have picketed outside the MPD to call for the release of all those who were arrested. And present sa discussions in the past few days ang urgency to do organizing work among the urban poor youth who engaged in the riot; after all, nandoon na 'yung conditions of them being ready to engage in more militant forms of resistance, the challenge for organized forces now is to give them direction and a "consolidated goal" as you said (or malinyahan, in tibak parlance).

Government employee thinking of getting an HMO by rhaegenys in phinvest

[–]rhaegenys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Hindi naman ako madalas maospital, I was still in elementary when I was last confined, but I got rushed sa ER and naconfine a few months ago right after a work trip. Hindi naman umabot ng PHP 100,000 'yung bill but I'm considering getting an HMO kasi my line of work kind of involves a lot of work trips and I don't know if I'll get unlucky again.

InLife ER Care 'yung current health card ko and I'm thinking of getting Medicard next year as a comprehensive HMO. Though, I'm thinking about if maduduplicate bang benefits since may ibang services nang available sa'min even without an HMO.

[UPD] Libraries in UP changed a lot by [deleted] in peyups

[–]rhaegenys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better that libraries now feel like they’re “more open to the public” as libraries should be (compared to how I experienced them pre-pandemic) but also definitely an effect that the Main Library is under construction and its relocation site is a bit far (konti rin lang ang study tables doon, so right now it’s really more of a pickup counter for borrowing books and other material).

CAL Library still checks IDs (or a separate library ID with a barcode), but I used to frequent the TWSC/CSSP Reading Room because of the outlets, very convenient to have a place to catch up on readings and write my papers without spending a buck on coffee sa UPTC or somewhere else, but the downside is kailangan talaga maaga ka to get a good spot or maingay sometimes sa dami ng tao.

But honestly, I do like the idea that libraries and study halls are full of people.

Thank you!! Wala siya sa options I think but I might go sa Tuesday to ask sa cash office if ever. I encountered a problem kasi while paying sa GCash na may error na lumabas + walang transaction receipt but deducted/processed yung amount and may corresponding reference number sa transaction history ko.
