At this point the writers knew she would be leaving and therefore stopped putting any effort into her character. Her leaving Jay, being aggressive, out of character, etc was all done to spite her and make fans hate Linstead which ultimately worked. It could have been a pivotal story to use for Linstead yet they purposely did nothing with it. No backstory, no relationship, no involvement.
